    Great stuff!

I sure like your railroad. That early Garratt is my favorite too. But the trestle and the loco on it are great as well.

Interesting old bus. Looks like it's been used for a few decades.

I really love small Garratt's. You did a great job with this one.

Thanks guys. The Garratt is the big power on my layout, she never slips with a load! I am thinking about building a small 0-4-4-0 Mallett which was a German loco used in Mexico on a mining line. I should be able to "US-ize" it, like I need another locomotive. I have loads of photos if anybody is interested in more.

Hey Boxcab-I found the LID issue with the SCPA&M trestle. Light Iron Digest Vol 2 #1 March 2000 on page 16. Pretty interesting story about it and excellent plans from Mr Garrie Tufford. See you later.

Here's a photo of Mogollon Railway's #4 Garratt loco switching a couple of ore cars at the Chupacabra mine. #4 is a great puller, she has 2 motors and runs very nicely.

    Chupacabra! Love that name! :)
That's an interesting loco with those opposed pistons powering each truck. Did you scratch build the ore cars? They look really good. Is your track 9mm?

It might be interesting to hear that lokey if equipped with sound. I'll bet it would sound like something really serious is happening.

Thanks guys. A Garratt locomotive would sound like a regular articulated since that's what it is in reality. There are books about Garratt locos so I can't get into that here. If I were a sound addict, I would have it...but I love silence, I listen to the birds and insects on my outdoor line. As for the ore cars, with the exception of 2 fine laser passenger car kits, all the Mogollon's rolling stock is scratch built as are all the structures. No manufacturer in his/her right mind would make kits for any of this stuff. The track gauge is 16.5MM (HO,On30) and 1:35 scale is approx. 8.25MM to the foot....1:35n2. In some discussions, 1:35 scale is refered to as "military scale", most of the serious military modelers are into the scale.

    Hey Woodie, :)

Wow... HO track! It looked just like N gauge compared to your loco. That makes it quite large which is a distinct advantage as it allows more details with less tedium.

Your terrain modelling is exquisite. I haven't started building my layout yet and so am really getting inspired by your work. Could you post a few more mine shots?

    (edit)
Just noticed... are those European bumpers on the engine?

Howdy Greg-yep, the track is HO gauge...not HO track however. The MRy's track and turnouts are all handlaid using code 83 rail, Micro Engineering small spikes, and ties I cut myself...I have been handlaying track since I was about 12..I am 62 now. I have been doing track this way so long, it has become "second nature" to me. Besides, it helps being "frugal" and handlaid track is indeed frugal.
Scenery is the same way, I use whatever works, since it is outside the materials may be a little different-they have to weather and not fall apart. The mines are mostly all just tipples and hints at mines, in this scale I don't have the space (nor the inclination) to model all the structures needed for a mine. However, my smelter is a "work in progress", I will post some photos when I can.

Please do, Woodie. Your work is awesome! :)
That's especially clever how you adapted each track from the turnout to the change in grade.

While looking at Japanese narrow gauge I happen to come come across this really unusual little 0-4-4 engine...

They come up with so many cool modelling ideas.

Greg-that appears to be a Kiso Lumber Co loco..I believe they were tiny Baldwins made for that Japanese 3 foot logger. Models of this loco have been done in On3 and HOn3 years back and I imagine in Japan, they are still being made. I had one imported by Ken Kidder many moons ago and wish I still had it although it would now be in a box since I don't mess with little stuff any more.
Those turnouts that have grade changes are NOT NMRA approved, they are a sure spot for derailments unless you run heavy locos and cars VERY SLOWLY through them. I would advise all to follow the NMRA and don't do things "my" way. It works for me, but then a lot of stuff works for me that would never work for anyone else! I have loved funky, nasty track for years and I have to say that if my railroad was "traditionally" powered (DC or DCC) none of what I do would work right. We do have operating sessions on the Mogollon Railway but due to the occasional derailment (prototypical for my favorite railroad) and link & pin couplers, when the neighborhood moms see the crew arrive to play, they get their kids inside...the sky turns blue with cussing and hollering. But we have fun anyway!

Here's a photo of the smelter I have been building. It isn't finished (probably will never be) but there is plenty still to make. This sits on about 10 linear feet of real estate. The 2 foot Mogollon Railway is above and the 3 foot Los Pinos y Madera RR is below-the connection with the "outside world".
