all these gorgeous caboose cars you guys do outstanding work i guess its time to upgrade my fleet, they only come out at night
My caboose fleet... OHhhhhhhhh...not that kind of cabeese ?:tb-wacky: On that note...you do realize a train museum is pobably the only place on the planet you can say "Nice Caboose!"...and NOT get slapped? .
Just an FYI, (I don't know if you just don't care for Bay windows). The SP bought Bay windows in 1947 (C-30-4) and 1949 (C-30-5). Traincat will be offering the C-30-5's alegedly soon. Con-Cor's are all so C-30-5's. Again just my 2 cents,
Quick question for a train newb (please don't stone me).... Can a caboose be added to a Union Pacific Modern ERA and still be accurate? If yes, how can I get info on how to build one of these bad boys from scratch? Again.. sorry to ask newbie questions. I want to be a part of this thread badly
I'm planning to model the Modoc line. I don't think the SP would waste the nice new cabeese on the Modoc.
Well, first of all, what do you mean by modern? Cabooses left mainline service somewhere around 1985(I'm guessing here). What time frame are you modelling? We can start from there. Have a good one,
I'm sorry; I just realized how vague the term Modern Era is. Era of what right? Let me clarify by saying I'm new to the hobby and am just in the building stage of laying down track. At this time, I think I'm going to model the railroads I've seen in my childhood. I remember watching Union Pacific freight trains passing by my neighborhood in the 80s. I don't see much change in how the trains looked then compare to now, so can I say I'm modeling 80s to now? Would it be acurate for my train to drag around a caboose given the informatin above? Thanks.
You could run with a caboose were you in the early 1980's as "FRED" had not yet compeletly kicked the hack off the track... so to speak.... Depending on how prototypically accurate you want to be you would have to be able to detail exactly where and when you are modeling as most railways moved to FRED's in stages by Divisions or segments or by some other logical method..... regardless; my rule number one is " if you like it; do it....." Run cabeese if ya like cabeese !" Have fun - thanks for droppin in here and keep postin !
There's a big difference between the early 80s and now. Then, there were cabooses, and Union Pacific's mainline fleet was mostly SD40-2s, C30-7s, SD40s and U30Cs. Now, it's mostly widenose power (SD70M, AC4400CW, etc), there are double-stacks...
