Er...Not really MY caboose fleet...because I don't own them any more. But I DID when I built them..... here are a few..
As much as it pains me to say (I love to razz Marty) Dr. Caboose; aka Mr. Marty Coil is the undefeated, undisputed master of custom vans; hacks; crummies, cabeese..et la. There is some awesome work here and some very talented builders; I aspire to your level; but for sheer talent and volume of work; Marty has done it all. I commisioned him to build my Pacific Great Eastern vans; two obscure woodies from a bygone era and when I got them I was taken a back; they were unreal. I have shown them at numerous shows and gotten unbelievable comments; Marty's work is great. I just wanted to recognize Marty for his outstanding work; we have many talented people in this hobby; but I must admit that I think of Marty as the "Norm Wright" of hacks..... but I still razz him whenever possible... Thanks Marty ! Keep building crummies; we'll keep enjoyin them !
cabooses A couple from my ICG fleet. The first one is a heavily kitbashed version based on the old IC 'side door' cabooses. Several survived to receive ICG paint and a few lasted into the mid-1980s. Chad
Some very nice hacks.. here are a pair of twins that were bashed from a couple of three window Roundhouse wood sides.....
Here are two that were custom made for me by Marty Coil.... This one is of a Virginia & Truckee caboose that was originally owned by Hocking Valley Railroad in Ohio. This caboose is part of an old timer train that belongs to my wife: This second one is one of two that Northern Pacific had built. The plans appeared in Railroad Model Craftsman. Marty did a fantastic job: I have other cabooses... but these two are the best because of their uniqueness. :tb-cool:
My eventual intent was that each crew on my future layout have a permanently assigned caboose, so the caboose track would have to be switched, instead of the crews just grabbing whichever is most convenient. This will also force crews to put their caboose away at the end of runs. I started by buying all the MTL SP, SSW, etc. cabeese I could. Then I discovered those wonderful Precision Scale Co. cabeese....I'm setting my layout in the late 40's, so bay windows need not apply.
