Hard to say what forum to put this in, and I don't know if we've done this before or not. We've done it with music but I thought it might be fun to do a thread on major movies that prominently feature trains and I will start with a just few that come to my mind (from having watched them sometime recently): Silver Streak Von Ryan's Express Runaway Train Under Seige 2 There are quite a few others that I can think of quickly that feature scenes on trains but I am thinking mainly of movies in which trains play a major role. What can you add? Charlie
Emperor of the North, a definate classic Death Train Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Fandango ( not a huge scene, but entertaining )
Speaking of Silver Streak- Wasn't there also a 1930's version? About a Zephyr type train? One of my all time favorites- "Danger Lights" (1930- Milwaukee Road.) Boxcab E50
How about End of the Line. Where the company Southland closes down the railroad and goes into the airfreight bussines and the two old guys steal a locomotive to go save there jobs and the railroad. This film was made in Arkansas,Missouri, and a couple other states.Believe it or not it was filmed on ex mopac lines UP let them do it.WOW!!!!!!!!!!
Switchback.....not entirely train-related, but theer was a lot of western-style stuff that was very nice.
Wanna see Danger Lights for free?? It is a public domain movie you can download here: http://www.archive.org/details/danger_lights
Union Pacific 1939 Barbara Stanwyck and Joel McRea The Harvey Girls 1946 Judy Garland and John Hodiak The General 1927 Buster Keaton and Marian Mack
Plot Outline: Five college buddies from the University of Texas circa 1971 embark on a final road trip odyssey across the Mexican border before facing up to uncertain futures, in Vietnam and otherwise.
Dan- That's the short version. Believe there's one about 60 minutes. My VHS is 73 minutes. :teeth: Boxcab E50
There's a scene where they get the bright idea of hooking a cable up to the front of the car, Then they lasoooooo a passing(SF) train with the other end. It's pretty funny
my persoal favorite is Von Ryan Express, but runnaway train is a good flick, although i get annoyed with the guy that keeps say "mannie"
How about flick from the early seventies: Runaway! starring Ben Johnson as the engineer. Train heading home with skiers loses it brakes. It's heading for a killer curve when a GP(?) pulls out of a spur chases the train down, hooks up to it and stops it in the nick of time.
