Arrow, Texas & Missouri I lived i Texas all my lifed but moved to Missouri last year. lol I thought about Flat River Railway, but everyone uses railroad or railway. Besides, sounds like Texas Land & Cattle Company and other things from Texas. Guess we'll be competitors! Too bad someone does come up with an online railroad sim. Like a mix of MS Rail sim, TRAINZ, and Railroad Tycoon put together. Let you create, build, and expand and still runs train. You could even "hire" other forumites as conductors, engineers, etc. Me and my crazy ideas!
Gabriel, I think Texas and Missouri or Flat River for your private railroad sound good. Maybe combine all three to create the Texas, Missouri, and Flat River. Just another idea. Texas Land and Cattle Company, they operate a restaurant chain don't they? If they do they have great steaks, spent a little time in San Antonio! I agree with you regarding an interactive train-sim game that can be shared on the net. I think that maybe the new one that the guys from RailDriver are working on will allow that. I have always thought a game like that would make train-siming even more enjoyable. Still like good 'ol model railroading though.
Many, many years ago, when I modeled in HO and before I started modeling the WP, I had my own road, called the Colorado and Western. I kind of based it on the Rio Grande, but it ran from Denver, Colo. to Phoenix, Ariz. Here's one of the C&W's GP7s, used to haul freight and local passenger trains:
My recently abandoned 18 yr old HO layout was the Saline, Ann Arbor & Yuma RR (SAY RR), based on the Ann Arbor Railroad which served Saline, Ann Arbor, and Yuma Michigan among other towns. Originally since I was modeling the entire railroad which ran from Toledo, Ohio to Frankfort, Mich I was going to name mine the Frankfort, Ann Arbor, & Toledo Railroad, but thought better about it (FAT RR).
Fred, What era do you model? I am familiar with the Ann Arobor RR's modern day operations in Toledo with the New Jeep Plant but that is about it. They have a very interesting loco shop there that would make a great scene on a model railroad.
JDLX, Your logging lines running really close to two places where I grew up: Jordan and Lone Pine (between Prineville and Redmond). How's that for coincidence? My railroad is the Santiam Pacific. It's a successor to the old Oregon Pacific, which ran from near Newport as far as Idanha. The original plan was to build to Ontario, but the railroad ran out of money and never made it. I've posted a history of the railroad on Trainboard here: Developing Diesel Rosters. I've started developing a couple diesel paint schemes, but I haven't gotten past that stage. I do have some custom decals I've made. When I get a chance I'll find the files and post them...sometime after breakfast! Pat
Do you have a branch line to the Pacific North West? Boxcab E50 </font>[/QUOTE]Unfortunately, no. However, cars can be routed over other railroads between the two closest interchange points. This is how I wound up with a covered hopper from a railroad in Illinois, another in Oregon, and still another from California (all model railroads, of course). When the O&NE started up in the 1970s, it got into the IPD program much the same as a lot of railroads did, and acquired a fleet of 50' boxcars. Most were used, but some were new. Now that it's moved up to the 1980s, it still has some cars floating around. Its sister railroad the MoKan is leasing covered hoppers with MKRY reporting marks.
One interesting private road from a fellow in a local model railroad club was the "Utah, North Dakota & Eastern Colorado". Easy paint scheme!
Soon I will have my own road. The Deanne & Anthony. Serving 2 mystical modern day towns somewhere in the hills of the OK-MO-KS-AR region and their industries. Tie-ins with KCS and BNSF are a possibility in the future if right-of-ways can be purchased from the local tribal councils. Will probably be a bit more expensive than the deal that Manhattan Island was purchased for......
I've been toying with the idea of a coal mining branchline searving the UP, calling it the Union Pacific Coal Co. Using 2 or 3 Spectrum russian decapods. A small point to point railroad bringing coal to the UP steam servicing terminals. I am still thinking about it. MJC
Here are some pics of my home road. The sun was so bright that the white glares. This gives and idea of my color scheme for the "CD&WJV Railroad". That's the Chama Draw & western Jemez Valley". The Roadrunner Route.
Carl- The sun was bright. But it sure gives a realistic "outdoor" appearance to the scene! Looks excellent! Boxcab E50
AKrrnut- That is quite a coincidence. I believe that I ran into you last September at the Great East Oregon Train Fair. I never did hear back from Everett...how did that event turn out? You might be interested to know that I just uploaded (last night, matter of fact) the first pages of a new website that will eventually feature just about every operation that ran in central and eastern Oregon. The webpage is located at: http://www.trainweb.org/highdesertrails So far the only two railroads that I have up are the Condon Kinzua & Southern and the Union Railroad of Oregon. The Oregon & Northwestern is scheduled to be one the next roads covered...and when that happens, I'd like to do a feature on that model of the O&NW that y'all built in your Dairy Queen... Thanks much, JDLX Elko, NV http://www.trainweb.org/mccloudrails http://www.trainweb.org/highdesertrails
Carl, Do you have any more photos of your layout? Is that an ancient cliff city in the mountain side? It would be great to see some more of your layout just from what I've seen in that one photo. Like your slogan "The Roadrunner Route", any logos for your route?
JDLX, I'm sure you did see me last September! Glad to hear from you again! We did pretty well with our train show. Had about 275 people come through. That may not sound like a lot, but considering that the nearest city is 70 miles away, and the nearest LARGE cities (Bend and Boise) are each about 3 hours away, I think we did pretty well. We'll see how this year's show goes. Let me know if you need any info on Oregon railroads. I know a little bit, and I know where to find a lot more info. Pat
Arrow - My "layout" has taken a back seat to what you see in the photo. It is one of my NTRAK modules. I do not have a logo as yet. I am designing one and will get decals made, some day. The background cliff dwelling is typical of Mesa Verde or closer to home the Jilla cliff dwellings in sounthern New Mexico. Thanks for the kind words. Let's all have fun with trains !!!!
