It was built by Schenectady for the Southern Pacific in August of 1898 as #1436. It was sold to the GH&SA (part of the T&NO lines) 4-22-1902 and was renumbered to 266.
Possible origin, the AK Steel plant in Middletown, OH. Photos are prolly 10+ years old, taken on the CSX main (northbound) at Washington Street, Dayton, OH.
Thanks. GH&SA history is fascinating, and compares with many other companies throughout our country during the same period.
A little ice jamming isolated this old, forlorn boxcar right next to..... This bridge across the Yellowstone. And, distracred driving gave me these pics on the siding at Shirley, along the Yellowstone

Empty coal train in Rosenberg waiting for the dispatcher to give it clearance to cross the Sunset Route.
What are those recent changes? I hope that policies have not made private varnish moves nearly impossible?
They use Frankendiesels on CP in Minot a lot today. Very few unmolested diesels in local service here.
Is this bridge still in use? If so, that guard rail is an ugly sight! Should there ever be a derailed wheel set, and it trips on that needed repair, (which is the guard rails' purpose, to help protect the bridge), the bridge could receive some very heavy damage.

Box - Yup, that bridge is in daily use, often multiple times a day with everything from locals to grain and gravel trains and any other diversion from the High line at Bainville, MT via Sidney to here. It is ugly but functional.
