It was built by Schenectady for the Southern Pacific in August of 1898 as #1436. It was sold to the GH&SA (part of the T&NO lines) 4-22-1902 and was renumbered to 266.

Thanks. GH&SA history is fascinating, and compares with many other companies throughout our country during the same period.

Caught the PV "Puget Sound" (ex-Great Northern 1323) at Union Station yesterday. I was quite surprised to see this car considering recent changes regarding Amtrak and PVs

What are those recent changes? I hope that policies have not made private varnish moves nearly impossible?

They use Frankendiesels on CP in Minot a lot today. Very few unmolested diesels in local service here.

Is this bridge still in use? If so, that guard rail is an ugly sight! Should there ever be a derailed wheel set, and it trips on that needed repair, (which is the guard rails' purpose, to help protect the bridge), the bridge could receive some very heavy damage.

Box - Yup, that bridge is in daily use, often multiple times a day with everything from locals to grain and gravel trains and any other diversion from the High line at Bainville, MT via Sidney to here. It is ugly but functional.
