75 locomotives including powered B units, 13 dcc, 12 decoders waiting for me to install, mostly Rio Grande, a few Santa Fe, others to be remarked for Rio Grande eventually. Some L&N and Southern RR as well. 150+ freight cars, 25 passenger cars. Still have about 30 Z scale locomotives, 250+ Z cars. 12 G scale engines, 30 cars, waiting to get a yard for this stuff. Ouch. It looks worse when you put it down like this...
Thanks bud!!Believe it or not, with few exceptions,[The ATSF Sd26's are stretching it a little..Maybe..]every single loco there was within a few miles of my house at one time or another, even the Bangor and Aroostook stuff,CP,N&W,B&O,even the U50 ran into Scranton a few times, albeit in it's present paint scheme of gray primer with the number "7000" on the cab in black. With Steamtown,NS,CP,and a bunch of branchlines that run here presently, plus the dozens of RR's that were here over the years,I could NEVER do it all..Right now,I'm looking to do 3 DT&I GP35's,they even ran here as Demos..
Very similar situation... I had HO scale as a kid in Maryland. When my parents decided to move to Florida in 1971, I was told my toys, plastic models, trains and even my bicycle had to be sold or given away because we didn't have room in the small U-haul. My parents finally allowed me to keep some plastic models... but sold my trains and bicycle for $20.00 total. I continued with plastic models as a teenager and didn't do trains until a few months after getting married in 1982. At that time, I also had found out we were going to have a baby. For some reason... I reverted to liking model trains and deciced on N scale instead of HO because we had a small apartment and figured N scale could be done in a small area. I started out with a Model Power set which had a Minitrix Santa Fe F7 and four passenger cars. Within a month I had another Minitrix F7 and within 3 months had a couple of ConCor Kato PAs and a PB in Rio Grande scheme. I acquired stuff much slower after that until the late 1980's early 1990's when I got into buying Micro-Trains rolling stock. I also began buying Atlas/Kato stuff too. Some financial setback in the mid 1990's to early 2000's kept my model railroading pretty much to nothing... but by then I had about 40 loco and hundreds of rolling stock. Once the finances improved in 2002... it was like a dam burst of buying things I missed in the previous 10 years... plus... hyper buying until this year and the onslaught of the GREAT RECESSION. I can't complain though... the last eight years was a boom cycle for model train accumulation. Though I haven't counted them (too much hassle) I'd estimate about 300 to 400 locmotives and 2500 to 3000 rolling stock.
Fine question... But I can only estimate somewhere around 60-70, most of which are future detail and/or kitbash projects... In fact, just picked up two GP7's for $20 each today:tb-biggrin: Sometime soon I'll order a pair of GP9 shells for the mechanisms. Already have the GP20 shell that will sacrifice it's nose and cab:tb-wink:
Way too many according to my wife.... I have 15 or so. All of them have been detailed to the SP, with the exeption of my lone ATSF 2-8-8-2. I'm looking at getting a few consolodations and mikados to run the smaller locals, but that is about it. I have dreams of a modest empire somewhere in the future when Navy life is over.
How many loco's? Do not know and do not want to know or even add it all up for fear I might slip and say something "wrong" in front of "she who must be obeyed"............. This question is as scary as, "Honey, what do you think?". I am really, really good at buying them, it is selling them I just can not seem to get the hang of..... After my expiration date, my train buddies will give her a clue as to what I have...... Jim
I don't know. I don't really count. But if you count A/B unit's as two I think in the neighborhood of 30 powered units. I don't use dummy units, well because I think it is dumb.. lol.. I think if I am needing another loco in my consist, it's gonna earn it's keep and help pull, hahhah... I will break down that 30 units like this. 15 DCC converts 15 DC awaiting decoders Regularly ran maybe 10-15 units... All are either steam, or early diesel. RS series, SW series, SD series, F series, E8s, a PA, a DL109, and the rest steam.
Bought first one in the 60's (Aurora Postage Stamp Train Set). I have only a fraction of the units of many shown here, but alas, it is still too many . That is the only way I can convince myself NOT to succumb to the temptation to buy the latest and greatest everytime a new one comes out. However, I still do get that excitement when (and if) Santa brings me a new one at Christmas time . NCDaveD
I have somewhere between 250 & 300. 1000 plus freight and a 200 plus passenger cars. Do we really have enough? Wolf
not enough.... don't know exactly. but i know for sure which is the largest one ... a 1:29 usa trains bigboy... talk about 5ft and approx 60 lbs...
My family moved right after I graduated high school, so the 15 x 15 HO layout that my Trainboard buddy Shaun and I spent several years building had to be dismantled. I started up in N-Scale again back in 2006 after a 22 year hiatus from the hobby and have been slowly building the roster back up since then. I'm pretty selective as to what I purchase. If it doesn't fit with my era or modeling plans I leave it sit. Right now the locomotive roster has about 60 units, most of which are destined for the paint shop, and around 400 pieces of rolling stock. Mike
I started out in N-scale in 1995, 25 years after my H0 layout was dismantled. Right now I have 50 locomotives, mostly steam and some early diesels, and 400+ cars on a 200 sq ft 2-deck layout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDrkDHrwYQ8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThqCvW20GMg
I have a pretty small collection. 2 Life Like Geeps, 1 Con-Cor SW1200 I think, Diezmon can correct me if I'm wrong, 2 SD-7's, plus 4 GE's. Well a grand total of 9 locomotives. Not a huge lot like some of you's but I will be getting me a few more laugh:
8 locos and probably 30-40 rolling stock. I usually buy at least 1 freight car everytime i visit english's so i'll get there. IDK where to even begin STORING 2000+ rolling stock and locos, you folks are truly out of my league lol.
I have been at this for approx. 4 years. I have 13 locos all NS except for 3. And somewhere between 175 & 200 freight cars. But always looking for more.
I felt it would be important to make a comment about the size of ones acquisitions in this hobby. There are many ways for people to enjoy this hobby. While it may seem that having a lot of stuff is really great... I have to say that accumulation is not as fullfilling as actually creating a layout and seeing your model trains 'earning their keep'. To paraphrase a cliché: Its not how much you have... It's how much you do with what you have. In N scale... we've craved so much and so long to have the choices that other scales had for so many years that many of us have gone off the deep-end on acquiring things. Sometimes purchases are made just because we begged so long to have it... we've felt compelled to buy even if it really wasn't a 'needed' item. So I'm telling you not to feel bad if you don't have a lot of stuff... because you can do great things in this hobby with very little invested in locomotives and rolling stock.
Hello. I have 9 pairs of locos. When one of pair has reglament repair - another can run instead. This is all because usual loco has small run lifetime - about 30 hours. You must change brushes and clean commutator after this period. If You ll dont do so - You ll have loco's stall or DCC shorts. -------- Thanks, Vadim
