I cut out the paper reefer ends and white glued them to my 40' deluxe reefers. I think they look good.
I hit on the idea of kitbashing a “canteen car” for my WM 2-8-0. A good friend gave me the locomotive and it's quickly become one of my favorites. I cannot bring myself to cut on it trying to add a MicroTrains coupler to the tender, so hit on the idea of kitbashing a “canteen car” with a Rapido coupler in front and MicroTrains in the rear. The base is a Bachmann 0-6-0 tender bought at a show years ago. I cut off the coal bunker, then added a portion of roof from another junk tender from a Bachmann 4-8-4. I added a MicroTrains coupler to the rear (no fear here) and a Rapido coupler to the front and viola – a prototypical looking compromise car. I'm not sure how I'll paint it, perhaps WM or perhaps for my freelance road. It's alarming how a photograph shows up every imperfection in my work! Oh well, it's been a very long time since I've done anything like this and it's been a lot of fun.
Thank you Boxcab! I want to do a bit more work with plastic filler before I apply the last coat of paint. Good idea on someone producing a canteen car. Kato makes them for their N Scale UP 4-8-4s, but the prototypes are too large for duty with the small steamers on my road.
Nice model. In the later years of steam a number of these appeared to extend the runs and allow the elimination of a number of water stops thus saving both money and time. Other than Kato and Bachmann nobody else that I know of produces canteen cars and as pointed out they are for the bigger steam. I have been taking some of the old non pick-up tenders and converting them when I have added an all wheel pick-up tender behind some of my steam. In at least one case I made one a cheater car by putting the little Kato, I believe 105 chassis, under the tender body.
Finished my SD40-2B Not perfect, but good enough for a 3ft model. Too hot to paint with an airbrush and try to vent the exhaust outside when its 110+ outside, so used a can of Tamiya TS-35 Park Green. I like the color.
That's neat Ike! Somewhere I have an old Beta videotape that a friend of a friend gave me in the mid '80s. The 'fan was out west beginning to film a passing freight when someone loudly yelled, "IT'S A B-UNIT!" hboy: I always think of that when I see one.
Nice work on the BN B unit Ike, I like it! Finally finished the Chicago Central GP38-2. May add a TCS Decoder in it before I list it for sale. Chicago Central GP38-2 #2009 by Jim Wiggin posted Jul 10, 2015 at 4:23 AM Late summer run. by Jim Wiggin posted Jul 10, 2015 at 4:24 AM
I think it look great tho i am not seeing the imperfection your talking about just a great looking project that one can be proud of.
Couldn't wait for the Trainworx bull hauler. And I figured I would make a trailer that I doubt we'll see from any manufacture And a shortened Freightshaker
So kind of like UPS pup trailers, I guess. I think the extra axles in the middle kind of threw me, makes it look like a heavy-duty setup.
