Can't figure the why of the steep price. Not exactly rare, in fact this article is almost 17 times more than what I paid for one last Fall, and at least 6 times what I have seen them go for. Curious as to what the offers were.
I don't know what it is about Minitrix locos, but almost EVERY one I see at swap meets has at least a $80 price tag on them. Even the ones that look like they have been through a WAR! I dont get it! These sold for $40 NEW! And I even still have a couple of them to this day.
Stumbled across this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATLAS-STEAM...187265?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item35b81d3001 Hasn't this guy appeared in this thread before??
Yup -several times in the 'long ago and the here and now' LOL couldnt resist that . . . Its very difficult to believe anyone goes for these prices, and the thing I dont get is that listing is expensive to list - BuyItNow are not on the free listing perks, and ebay hits you for a larger non-refundable listing fee.
Perhaps we should all start hitting the swap meets, grab up these five dollar locos and start selling them for $150 and $250? Maybe we are missing out on bankrolling trips to Tahiti, etc.
Funny, I just bought the pacific version at the LHS for $20. Now to see if someone will trade it for a Shay!
A few years back I picked one for about $10 at a show with the idea that maybe I could bash something from it. When I did get around to it I found that, like a number of the older Atlas steamers, the frame had a bad case of Zmactitis that wasn't even close to being repaired. But not all was lost. I had a shell for another project, and a spare motor that worked, plus some parts. Paying this price for this loco is about like playing Russian Roulette with 5 out of 6 cylinders loaded. The sum total of the parts doesn't equal the price being asked here. The Spookshow review is here. http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/riv080.html Since the motor is shared by the Pacific version, and I have two, having that extra motor or two laying in a drawer is nice to have but I wouldn't pay this for an extra motor.
I hope this isn't humor. I just picked up a "new" 2-10-2 on the bay for $89.99 with free shipping. Per the seller, it was used for a photo shoot for a rail mag!!!! Heck, I'll pay Bachmann the repair fee, if there is an issue! WOOOOO HOOOOO. (I will whine, that I wanted one with a dog house, but this price might help keep me out of the dog house)
It would be good if you knew which magazine, then you could get a copy and tell everyone "that's my engine".:tb-cool:
You gotta be kiding me.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atlas-N-Sca...643256?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item43abe3d238 I picked my NS GP15-1 used for $30.00 from a follow club member.
This seller has been note of before, ALL of their stuff is overpriced!!! My favorite is this one: http://tiny.cc/618tdw :hmm4er:
Or this Model Power Mikado. I guess they operate on the "Find a Sucker" one time only customer model.
I have a pair of the MP mikes. I'll sell you the first one for 300 bucks and knock 100 bucks off the second, only 500 bucks for the pair !!! Randy
