The BLM trail at Bridgeport has been an issue since part of it runs along the road next to tracks. Often times one would find UP no trespassing signs adjacent to the trail signs. Well UP must have decided not to push the issue any further because we found these new signs along the route. Some of the ties near the crossing. Along with some equipment. Ben
On the way back home we stopped by to catch a stopped coal train sitting next to the Gunnison River in Grand Junction. Later in the week we caught the UO crew instlling some ties. Ben
April UP Action The Parachute Local heading east through Clifton, CO on a cold and rainy April morning. One of two coal hoppers involved in a derailment well over a year ago has been loaded up in the west Grand Junction yard. D&RGW AX-21015 is still in MOW service after all of these years. My son and I headed out to see if we could catch the UP MOW crew working on the Montrose Branch. MOW activity near Whitewater, CO. Ben
April UP Action Continued... As we turned off Highway 50 toward Bridgeport we met a UP dump truck. This was a good sign! One of the UP trailers at Bridgeport. One of two transport buses. And here is the MOW equipment. Ben
This weekend my son and I headed out to see if we could catch up with the UP MOW crew again on the Montrose branch. Here is a signal / switch box that I came across on the Montrose branch from the old Rio Grande days. We drove all the way to Delta, CO where the MOW crew has now set up camp. The guys must of took Saturday off because we did not see any activity. Ben
Well it has been over a month so here are some more pictures. With all of the MOW activity around here we have been fortunate to see some old survivors! Ben
Earlier this year UP erected 3 flag poles near the GJ tower. UP 6875 slowly pulls a loaded coal train out of the GJ yard. And here it is seen passing through Clifton, CO. More pictures to follow... Ben
I was at a cubscout camp today and I look up and what do I see? But an old luggage cart with Rio Grande on it. I only had my phone with me so I didn't think about any photos. But I gotta go back there tomorrow so I will try to get a pic of it. Nice pics bravo!
As I passed behind the GJ tower last month I caught an un-patched SP unit. Also some rather large reels were spotted near the main yard. Ben
Here is the baggage cart that I found at the cubscout camp. It used to be used at the SLC depot. Has both Rio Grande and Western Pacific reporting marks on it.
