Not sure if any one here has seen David K. Smith's N scale White River & Northern, but he has recently started a Z scale coffee table layout. If he follows up with the same level of work he's done in N, it should be a great layout. Either way it's a great site to stop at and to check back and see his progress: http://jamesriverbranch.net/
informative website. i was surprised, though, at his estimate of Z as so limited. it's not HO, i'll grant, but i think there's more out there than he's yet discovered. i hope he finds this forum and some of the many other marketers and modelers supporting Z. he definately has a lot of insight and experience to offer, and i think he would have a lot of fun "with us." maybe he'll give us a look. thanks chris for drawing our attention to him. i'm going to follow his progress on his layout. he does good work. dave f.
Dave, From his point of view on searching for Z scale info online, I'd have to agree with him. The really good juicy Z scale info seems hidden in the corners of the internet. If I hadn't found this place I might not be in Z scale right now. It's hard to search for Z and not find pages with the word "Marklin" on it, things like that. I gave David links to this forum and Zcentral station, along with Z scale monster. Those links alone could end up doubling his useful online information. So I guess if anything it would only get better for him and us. Kind of like this post. Perhaps a Z scaler out there hasn't seen it yet. On another note. If you check out the N scale side of his site: http://whiteriverandnorthern.net/index.htm He has a lot of animation on his layouts, maybe that will follow to the Z scale layout!
I saw he joined on ZCentral today and I too looked at the link in his profile to see his work. I think the work on the big bridge is awesome and desrves alittle more exposure.
Wow! That was quick! Hi David! Welcome to Trainboard! I'm glad to see that you are contributing to Z Scale as well. Almost everyone here is blazing new territory in Z, and many of us are doing our part to contribute to the growth of Z Scale. The lack of period automobiles is something I have been rallying support for too, but it's out of my skillset to do anything about it yet. If you produce some Z Scale period automobiles I would be happy to be your first customer!
welcome david. i hope you enjoy your forays into Z. chris has been keeping us hopping, and with the other experienced Z modelers already on board you will find yourself at home with people who understand detail and enjoy a challenge. this has been the most relaxed, friendly, and fun group of modelers i've known since my days in the denver area n scale club. even though i've never seen (most) of their faces, it feels like we're all huddled around some edge of the same workspace or layout, passing around a new car or marveling at each other's attempts. this is a good place to be. you'll find refreshment here. welcome, [another] dave (f.)
David, Great web site and layout!! Well done. You are so correct in your estimate of searching for Z scale info online. That is what led me to start the Z Web Site Search column in Ztrack Magazine. Keep us up to date on the progress of your layout. John
David, Thanks for posting and hope you don't mind me linking your site. I'm sure some here will find it interesting as well as your work in N scale. Plus inspiration!
David, welcome to Trainboard I've admired your work since seeing WR&N 3 was it?? in GMR. Glad to see you're applying your talents to Z scale. So far, the JRB looks awesome, that bridge... wow... I'm looking forward to more. Keep up the great work Regards, Dan MacKellar
Dido to David F's comments... Since finding this site and the Z Central site early in the fall of 2006, my Z scale modeling has taken off into may new directions. It was these sites and the great modelers on them who convinced me that DCC was the new way to go (and boy where you all right). Before finding these sites, i had no contact with any actule Z scalers fro many years. Z just does not exist in my neck of the woods. Through these sites, i found a local Z scale freind (Gwyl aka zztop) and started the Wasatch Z Club... WOW.... all this from hooking up with these sites!!!!!! So to the new David member, Welcome!!!! I hope your Z scale experiance will be better and more enjoyable via the forums on these great sites. Tony B... Wasatch Z Club
