It was one of the Coffee Shop cars, so the Cup name is rather fitting. BN F3B 9763, ex-Northern Pacific 6507B, July 1974 (Bob Jordan) BN F7A 626, ex-Great Northern 308C, May 1974 (Bob Jordan)

You were fortunate to see it Kurt. Growing up in a city not served by Amtrak, I missed the rainbow era so that makes these pictures even better to me. Just some great stuff!!!!
I was fortunate to ride the Amtrak Panama Limited (later renamed City Of New Orleans) in Summer of '71, one of its last days of all IC brown & orange, including the E8 (or 9) in charge. We ran about 100 mph between Chicago and Kankakee where we sat for an hour a mile north of the station until a failed signal showing red could be repaired.
Living in Edmonds, Wa as a kid, I saw lot's of "Fallen Flag" passenger cars right after the BN merger. Lot's of mostly NP, GN, CB&Q, etc.
USDOT Test Car T-3 out on the Rio Grande, October 1976 (Bob Jordan) BN Heater Car 18, possibly Denver, CO, December 1975 (Bob Jordan)
Sad that the Heater car was tacked on behind the observation/dome car blocking the views. I guess there are few, if any rail fans among car handlers.

That paint scheme looked equally good on both the GE's and EMD's. Love it! Thanks for sharing these and all the other great photos in this thread Bill!
Brand new UP SD40-2 3208, Denver, CO, April 1973 (Bob Jordan) Soo Line U30C 805, July 1975 (Bob Jordan)
Too many times, red did not weather well. In this instance, with white as a companion color and starting six decades ago, it was not a good choice for the new "Soo Line RR".
