It's down for many of us - a couple of "compusmart" members are trying to figure out why many of us are getting 403 and 404 errors even after clearing cache, deleting cookies etc.....

What about if you click on this link and log in as usual?

    http://www.therailwire.net/forum/

Your browser may be doing too much for you, and may be screwing things up by going to a slightly different address or whatever. I don't know. I am but an unfrozen caveman logging modeler. Your computer browser ways confuse and baffle me. I just know I can get in and that this is the address that works for me.

    I cannot reproduce your results

I just tried clicking the link I provided in #42 again, and.... it still works. I also tried clicking it within the context of the quote here from George and... it still works. I cannot reproduce your errors. I know when TrainBoard was down for a couple days a little while back I really had to purge whatever TrainBoard cache information and remembered addresses (if it's auto-completing it for you it's a remembered URL) my browser had to get it to do right again.

    Via this (http://www.therailwire.net/) I get...

    403: Forbidden
This error message is generated when the web server is trying to access a file that does not exist or has been configured incorrectly

    Troubleshooting suggestions:
Ensure that you have a valid home page defined in your website directory (example: /htdocs/index.html, /htdocs/index.php). On Unix, this is case sensitive and must be all lower case.
In your Account Manager, under Hosting Tools, click to .Reset File Permissions..

I have alerted the thread over there to this thread asking if someone can come over and solve these problems. I think your browser is trying to go to it's old, logged-in place, in a behind the scenes way you cannot see. I don't know how to fix this.

The site is up and working .. lots of people are getting logged in. Tom ended up moving the site to another hosting company to fix some issues. The DNS may not be totally updated yet with the ISP you use. Clear your cookies out, clean your browser cache.

There's your answer so if you are asking "why", this is why: DNS propagation.

    LOL...thnxs...BUT...

Shouldnt Admin over there have anticipated the increase in membership....posting...and traffic when they knew the Atlas Forums where closing and all the lost souls from there where gonna go searching for a new home ? The 'problem' ( whatever it is/was ) could have been fixed before it happened...just sayin.

Of course I am a simple minded SOB and havent a clue what I am talking about....ask anyone. OII !!!

A lot of this is probably run by volunteers operating the best way they know how during the time they have to give to the project, so it could be that they underestimated the impact or just never considered it in the first place. You'd have to ask their mucky-mucks that one.
