There are at least three noses: SP, SP Snoot and DRGW... The problem is that in the 1990's SP began plating over the cab mounted mars lights and removing the red "emergency light" which sticks up from the nose mounted headlights. In the closeups of the model, it looks as if the nose lamp is a detail part, but Marty, as mentioned seemed to imply that there are only three variants. Although it may seem ungrateful to complain when someone FINALLY gets around to giving SP models correct lighting fixtures, on the other hand, if you're gonna get it right, IM should get it right and at least cover the lobotomized nose lamps. My bet is that if they did, this would have forced them to provide a third CAB (since they are already doing L and non-L windows), so the complexity was getting astronomical. Very anxious to see these - somebody must have one in their possession by now!
I have noted none of the tunnel motors have appeared on Ebay, i wonder if they will as they are in such high demand?
From the IMRC press release on April 29, 2003 Emphasis added. " SD40T-2 "Tunnel Motor" Presenting InterMountain's Second N Scale Locomotive Reserve Yours Today! Check out these features... - Completely assembled and ready to roll! - Short and long nose versions, with different light variations - Standard or L window cabs - Detailed to match specific prototype units - Laser sharp painting and lettering - Easy to install DCC" Seems to me that answers the questions raised above.
"Any Day" According to IMRC last week the UP had arrived and were starting to be inspected. Shipping was expected to start this week.
I got my Cotton Belt unit today, Thanks, George! I took a gang of shots, and when I get them processed, I'll post them.
Shown for length comparison: Kato SD40-2, much shorter than T-2! But it seems the Kato mech weighs more.. Curious...
How does the light board size compare to the Atlas SD50? In other words, will DCC decoders built for the SD50 fit in the tunnel motors? Daryl
