Agree with Colonel. Detail pics of front and left cab side would be most helpful... Looking for: Front anticlimber paired stanchions at ends 4 hole jacking pads "split" equipment doors sideframe to frame spacing
Alan, Candlelight vigil will end. The milk carton search will be suspended and the toll-free number discontinued. Replaced by the "Quest for Corrections" including (but not limited to) those listed above. All in all this feels like the first Athearn tunnel motors I "corrected" back in the 1980s. After looking at the Wig-Wag and IM sites this is the same pre-production shot as before. No real news there... Please George, a photo or two?
This is probably a stupid arse question... mainly because I don't think it's possible to be done... but when I look at the picture posted by Wig-Wag... it almost looks like Intermountain has recreated the "see-thru" effect of the radiators of the Tunnel Motors. So... Is it an optical illusion.... or, is that really a "see-through" radiator area on the Tunnel Motor?
None of the above. Not see through but not quite optical delusion. I believe the weight has been painted white. This was discussed at great length with Marty in Longmont in April @ the convention. To open the area behind the radiator would have eliminated so much weight that the loco would have been severely limited in pulling capability. I hope this is a best of both worlds comprimise.
I wonder how hard it will be to get rid of all those lights to better model the Speed Lettered units? It's too bad Intermountain couldn't do another nose piece to reflect these. A wacky light package on a Speed Lettered tunnel motor just doesn't look right... Although....at least we finally have them in N And that is something we've waited a long time for. I still think the Atlas SD50/60 mechs sit a bit high though. Maybe it's better on the production models.
Folks, I have one coming, yes, I know, I'm a BN modeler... I'll get some detail shots posted when I get it.

The see-thru effect is such a major spotting feature on these units! I really hope it can be done. Russ [ 29. December 2003, 05:04: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]
Intermountain has done several nose pieces. At least three molds were cut to get the snoot nose correct for the first run. Who told you a different light package would not be available for the later units?
AFAIK there are at least three different noses to these units and the correct lighting will accompany the different paint shcemes. If ya ask me (I know, nobody did ) this is more than I'd expect from any of the manufacturers and I've been extremely grateful for any of the "extras" or different versions the companies have been going through the time, expense and trouble to produce. I'm used to having to add my own details and custom SP lights. But then again I like to do the customizing and detailing.
If the tunnel motors are in,then the standard SD-45's can't be far behind.I guess now I can start to wait for my E-L's to hit the stores!

From this I thought they meant there'd be a snoot and standard length nose with the full light package and another nose for the DRGW units. I know it matters little in the grand scheme of things, but the photos I've seen of the preproduction SP/SSW/UP units all have the full SP light package. From memory (I don't have my photos with me at the moment), the Speed Lettered unit at the Expo also had the full light package. I really hope I have missinterpreted things and there will be a different nose for the Speed Lettered units. I won't get my hopes up just yet. If they are in fact doing a separate nose, I would have thought (and it would be cool if they do) they would have offered it for the Bloody Nose versions as well - they ran with nose jobs almost as long as they did with the full light package. I will keep my fingers crossed until more details about the future runs are available.
Are there three different noses for tunnel motors? I know of the "standard" nose and the "snoot" nose. Is there a third configuration for DRGW or another RR? I was not considering light packages as a different nose. Maybe that is the difference we are talking about?
