The unbelievable happened today when a 40 long unit train derailed with 4 leading Tunnel motors and a geep lost control on a downhill grade causing a pair of cars to derail. This then caused the front of the train to also derail. The driver of the train (Flash Blackman) was lucky to escpae injury from fellow loco owners, myself and Jason Willetts See pics below, you will also see Flash's newly acquired SP Kodakchrome SD40 Tunnel Motor The train was being run as an International event to celbrate another visit of flash blackman to Sydney N scale Club. Looks like someone's gonna have to take a mandatory drug test now!! Hopefully, no major damage to any of the units/cars involved? Locomotive handrails in particular. Know what caused it yet?
No there was no damage, it was caused by the train travelling down a steep grade and the cars surging forward as Flash was pretty heavy on the throttle lol.
Someones going to get brownie points for that one. Think maybe its time to rethink long empty trains around tight radi Shannon WP LIVES (and so does the ATSF)
Maybe he should have deployed the slats, spoilers, flaps and thrust reversers...........oops wrong cockpit..........I meant the dynamic brakes! Bill
Well, looks like someone's got thirty days off.... Mr. Blackman, if you'll step over here, it's time to pee in the cup now.......
If it makes you feel any better, Flash, I pancaked a long train of reefers against a bridge portal last night on the first full run of my layout since February. At least I'm running again after tons of scenery work.
I am telling you guys that this was not my fault! Jason yelled, "Look out!", I grabbed for the flap handle to go slower. That's when it started to get ugly. Anyway, that's my story. Had a really great time at the club, as usual. Always tired, but a really great time. I hope that some of the other America's types can get to see the layout one day. It is really worth a stop in Sydney. [ 03. August 2004, 02:10: Message edited by: sapacif ]
Amazing, even during derailments, MT couplers stay coupled.....less they take the 5' plunge off the layout.
Well, yes, but not exactly. These are Jason's cars and they are permanently coupled with drawbars. MTs are every 4-5 cars. I think Jason once had a thread on this.
I was running a stack train a few weeks ago. Got caught on a truss bridge and a 5 car se of Delux husky stzcks cut loose down the 4% grade. Made it round the curve and down but derailed on the scurve at thebooton. Lost the conductor and brakeman when the caboose rolled on its side and one stack car rolled on top. How many brownie points do I get for that one????
