Oh, I made more pictures like this: ICE train on its way through Schwerte from Hagen to Hamm. ZOOM IN But you can see, I was too slowly. The time from hitting the camera release to the picture was too long. Wolfgang
Oh man I really like those German DB 103's. Very stylish units. i also like that belgian Class 18. Looks very much like the French units that were in a silver red scheme. Oh oh now I have to go look at ebay amnd see whats up for sale this week.
ALAN, your photos are outstanding! But what I find disgusting is that all you have to do is hop onto the next Eurostar out of London and you are next to any and every rail photo opportunity in Europe. While we poor misguided colonials must scrimp and save to book steerage on a rusty tramp steamer and hope to be allowed to view some disgarded BR goods van through a fence rotting in a scrap yard...... Best Regards, with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek...
The Belgian class 18 is a version of the French 40100 class. IIRC the power delivery to the traction motors is different, other wise they are sinilar. They are 4-voltage units so can (could) travel through several european countries by switching pantographs.
This train used to be a French coach (I think a dinner car). Today, it is used by a Dutch firm as a train for technical surveys (measuring the condition of the tracks etc). Picture taken at Utrecht Centraal Station, 22 Jan 2005.
In the city Enschede (in the east of the Netherlands), there are two German companies riding trains (train type 'Talent') from Enschede to German cities. The DB rides to Münster, the Prignitzer Eisenbahn rides to Dortmund: Picture taken in Enschede by my wife , 13 Aug 2005. [ November 12, 2005, 02:10 AM: Message edited by: Thieu ]
