Russell, that is a great shot. Wish I had space for more trackside streets and structures! I look forward to seeing more of your layout pics.
Pete, what an awesome layout. It is indeed a "large endeavor" indeed! I would never get something like that finished More pics please
Pete Nolan: That is a "large endeavour" all right! Is this the new layout? Did you move from an older location, or do I have you mixed up with someone else?
Hi Flash, The old layout came down about 18 months ago, when Jeanne asked for the room for a studio--I agreed in an N scale nanosecond because it had its problems, and I wanted to try stuff like C55 and DCC. So I converted one-third of the garage--heated, A/C, custom lighting, and a three-deck nolix design. It's 11 x 23, with about 800 feet of track and some 75 switches. I've been awfully busy this year, so Jeanne and I are just starting the scenicking. Pete
Pete, You are lucky that you wife takes an interest, I have spent many a lonely day or night working on the layout. Here is a pic of my BNSF high wheeler loaded with spine cars and Impack cars.
New to Trainboard, no so new to RailImages! As for unit trains, I run: 35 car DRGW coal, Atlas 90T hoppers 40 car BN/BNSF coal, E&C car shops, I think 34car CSDPU coal hoppers, Precision Masters 30 trailer set of Triple Crown Roadrailers 65-75 car Grain hoppers, InterMountain, MicroTrains, Precision Masters 12-13 car Front Runner, Atlas, with MT Cities trailers My favorite: 25 car COORS beer reefer train, Model Power cars, Atlas CB&Q GP35's. Longest train I've run, on N scale modules: 120 cars, 9 Atlas SD60/60M. With a 20" radius turnback loop, on a slight grade even!! 1" higher on one side! See my RailImages gallery for a few shots of the module I'm currently working on. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/keithhahn No layout to run on, yet. Might be able to get photos on FoamRail modules, next time we set up, probably Denver GATS in Feb, first of March.
Keith, Great to have you here on Trainboard. seems like you run some monster unit trains. would really like to see some photographs sometime.
I'll see what I can get at GATS coming up next month. Monster train was a general freight though. Not a specific "unit" train, per se. Hopefully, the rest of the gang will give me the chance to try again!!
...here's the beginnings of a unit train on our layout...there's obviously more to this particular cut than is shown here, but wresting the new digi-camer from the hands of my son is a bit of a chore....but then again itw as his Xmas present so I guess I gotta wait my turn, eh????
Here are a couple of pics of 3 of my unit trains standing in the interchange yard. The 3 trains are a MOPAC unit grain train, a MRL boxcar and logging unit train and the third is a Rio Grande Grain train.
Paul, I see you've been keeping Warren Lake busy, like the Rio grain train.I'm just about finished my DRGW,114 car unit coal train,I've made them into 5 car sets, with draw bars inbetween. Will post photos asap. BTW Paul when are you going to pay us a visit down at the club rooms,I think you will be very surprised...!!
Jason, Yes Warren has made all of my main building for the layout. Did you use the roundhouse coal hoppers for your train? I do intend to visit the clubhouse but it's just finding the time. I have heard the decision was made not to go DCC on the new layout???
Paul, I intend to catch up with Warren myself soon,he does do some very nice stuff!! Yes all round house(DRGW & UP coal liner's),with body mount 1015's on either end, drilled & taped 230 ,5/16 holes.Took awhile but was worth it,it's great to be able to back a hundred odd cars through half a doz. points & into a yard just for kicks Going to try & figure out how to upload my photo's now........
The decision was made not to go DCC for the new club layout, but I understand that it will be wired in such a way that at a later date,it can be changed to DCC with no real trouble. In theory anyway! But the two club layouts will be joined so on a running day with ten or so people(once finished both layouts will be able to handle 24 people plus),it can take 2-3 hrs to do one lap of the whole system.
I have between 15 and 20 that I may be looking to sell or trade in the future if you are interested. Here is a picture of the Rio Grandes that i have, all of them have loads installed
Aaaah you got me Paul, always looking to expand the unit train abit.Let me know when & where & how much.
