I have been asked several times to post a topic of my layout which I have named The Cheyenne Sub Division. As most of you are aware I first started modelling Union Pacific in 1999 and basically freelanced my layout. Over the years my modelling has grown and I now model the fallen flags of Union Pacific with the majority of the roster now being MOPAC. I also take modelling licence and run through other roadnames on the layout. Today I decided to take a photo shoot with 3 CP Rail SD40's There are approx 25 images of the layout so I will post over a few days, The first being a layout schemating and 5 overview shots of the layout. The first overview photograph shows the eastern end of the layout with the Witchita interchange yard in the foreground and United Grain Growers Terminal in the background on the right, The left hand side of the picture shows Stringtown Quarry. The second overview photo shows Roanoke yard East and a MKT hot shot heading east on the mainline. The 3rd overview photo is heading South past Roanoke West end and the El Rino Engine Service Facility The 4th photo is taken with El Rino Engine Facility to the right and Choctaw yard on the left and Sherman cement works in the background The 5th photo shows the Southern end of Choctaw yard and Farmers Feed and Seed on the left as well as the City of Corsicana. I will go into detail shots around the layout in the next few days. The first shots will be from Witchita Interchange to Farmers Co-op [ June 15, 2005, 04:32 AM: Message edited by: Colonel ]
I have seen it many times and still enjoy the pics. Thanks, Colonel! It is a well organized layout, but I am still studying the schematic.
Yes we still play pinball on the odd occassion, wichita interchange and the UGG terminal is removable. Eventually the layout will be expanded and the pinball machine will have to be sold.
I've seen removable sections for access to furnaces and water heaters, but that's the first pinball machine...
Sweeet!!! Pinball machine for sale ......on the yellow forum??? I think playing it WITH the layout in place might be fun I think you need one of them traincams on show us around the loops I agree, I'm still studying the schmatics... maybe you can put the photo arrows on it.
Ahhhh!! Got it!!! See, being a northern-hemi guy, I was thinking you'd go from the right to the left Alan, you got me beat by a whole picture...
Here is the next installment of the tour. The schematic has been updated the show the location of the next 5 photographs 1. The CP train exits Witchita interchange headed towards Roanoke yard. The mainline is in the background. 2. Here the train is entering the throat of Roanoke yard which has 4 roads. This yard is used to classify trains for switching industries. 3. Here you can see trains stored in Roanoke yard awaiting switching for the industries. 4. The train has exited the yard and is heading to the mainline. El rino Engine Service facility is in the foreground and is at the lead end of Chactaw yard. 5. Here the train passes the switch for Farmers Feed and Seed. The City of Corsicana is in the background. Once the train passes the city it joins the mainline. More pics tomorrow
How interesting- the real Stringtown rock quarry is about 50 miles northeast of me on the old MKT (now UP's Choctaw Sub from Ray Yard(Denison) to Muskogee), and is servied by a rock train that runs to Denison, where DGNO takes it on to Royse City, TX. When I saw all that Katy power, I coulda swore I was looking at Ray Yard again in the late 1980s. I recommend a name change from the Cheyenne Sub to the Choctaw Sub (but that's just me, lol ) Nice shots, and great pics!!!!
Sweet! Paul, am I blind, or is there not a single pic with a D&RGW train or loco in it??? Funny how I live IN Cheyenne, WY, and that layout doesn't look a thing like it does here....
Ok time for the next installment and yes Hemi I do agree with you lol Here is an updated layout plan with the additioanl photo positions 6. The train is about to head onto the main line, here it is passing Sherman Cement works siding 7. Train is approaching Nth sherman Jct which is the start of a 2% grade to Stringtown 8. Half way up the 2% grade the train approaches an S curve. 9. The train is approaching Stringtown and is at the top of the grade. 10. The train is now on a downhill grade as it passes Stringtown Quarry
Colonel - I really enjoy your layout - top notch! Thanks for the tour - it's great being able to match photo locations w/ the track plan. Most Excellent
