I just got a great idea for a new contest...A scavenger hunt! Quite simply, one person would start this by setting the current item on the list. Then everybody searches to find a photo of a prototype or a photograph of a model, or a website that has a picture of the proposed item, AS WELL as a little information about item. Then, the first person who finds the item wins a point and then proposes the next challenge on the list. Nice thing about this is you don't really have to be a modeler,or a photographer, just quick and resourceful in what you know you have already. The item can be as broad as "An 0-6-0" or as specific as a specific, such as "A Revell 0-6-0T Tank Swither" or open to both prototype and model, such as "An SD60 in UP colors" This could be Fun! Remember, to be allowed to start the next round, you must post a picture of the item on the quest, or a direct weblink to website that has the picture, and give a little background about the item, model or prototype, your choice. If you post a link then SPECIFICALLY tell us where that picture is on that page. And if your item cannot be found in a reasonable amount of time, A new object will have to be selected. Everybody ready? Here the first Item on the list: A broken knuckle coupler...you decide the type! [ 11. October 2002, 07:37: Message edited by: Benny ]
Couldn't find a good photo. Many I found were not clear enough. How about a drawing and accompanying text? http://www.asf-usa.com/pdfindex/rotdum/Rd11.pdf
well me thinks igot it. check out the link. this happened on a 114 empty coal train with 3 bnsf dash 9's came from the krug website. check the 3rd pic down. http://krugtales.50megs.com/rrpictale/break/break.htm
ok here goes. lets see if we can find the whalebelly 94 foot tank cars in which atlas made models of in the early 70's, these are to be photos of the prototype cars.
nope this is the 8 axle, 94 foot long tank car. these only rode the rails for a few years as they had some severe problems with stress and weight issues.
Is This It: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/nctx33091.jpg If it is I would love to see a color photograph of the 10-Wheeler
Here is a ten wheeler: from :http://www.pernet.net/~james1/texas/sopil_13.jpg And info on it: Southern Pine Lumber 4-6-0 Ten-wheeler # 13 A Baldwin (53599/1920). It is located next to the old Southern Pine Lumber Building in Diboll, TX. It has recently been restored, and is in fantastic condition, with its glossy black paint job and clear cab glass. It is totally complete, and looks as though it only need internal work and some minor external work to run again. It used to run on the Texas-Southeastern Railroad. Now, find me a 1957 Russian copy of a 1937 Nash, 1, 2, 3! (Kidding!) Naw. Get me.... a picture of Siskiyou Summit, Oregon, in the snow. (Train not required.) (Note: if you can't find that, I'll accept a picture of anywhere in the Siskiyous in snow as a substitute, but only if there's an SP SD45 in view.)
I am very very glad I went on that hunt...beautiful country! Here is a picture, but it isn't perfect...I Kow someone can find a better one, so I will leave this one open.: New Pictures This page has some nice cascade pictures. SP and Cascades In the locomotives secion you will find your sd-45 sharing trackage with a (gasp) F-unit. And the Snow section has nice snowblower action and general snow fighting operations. Postcards Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for...I'll keep looking. If someone else beats me, go for it! If this pile works, how about a Coal yard, something for distributiuon in cities or towns, something from around the 1950's or before, preferably not a picture taken for a commercial kit advertisement...unless the commercial kit is in a picture on your own layout, or the commercial kit has not been avaiable forever. Getting warmer Benny, but no snow visible... can anyone get me some white stuff here? I'll give you guys till Sunday afternoon, and if no-one can find a picture like I described, I'll give the baton to Benny.
Alex I didn't find snow but I found two interesting sites for you to check out: http://www.tunnel13.com/summit/summit.html http://siskiyou.railfan.net/proto_h.html Have Fun Tiger Thanks for the picture too Tiger she looks so pretty [ 12. October 2002, 17:41: Message edited by: LadySunshine ]
You're getting warmer Tigress! FYI guys, the picture of Siskiyou Summit in snow, complete with locos and the tunnel portal, does exist... I found it in less than 5 minutes. Clue: forget the word summit. Clue 2: option, try looking for a railroad name.... that isn't SP. Ironhorseman in Jefferson State knows what I am talking about.
How about These, Tiger http://donross.railspot.com/mm26.jpg http://shastaroute.railfan.net/Images/SD_Artwk.jpg http://www.visitsiskiyou.org/gallerywin01/Morrisdec121999.jpg http://www.artmt.com/Sp1.jpg
Actually, Tigress, the picture I found was on this page: http://www.alpharail.net/corp/today/jan01.htm But I'll accept your number three of UP engines in the snow, albeit on the south side of the Siskiyous. Which means it's back to you to choose an item.
How about an honest to goodness 0-2-0 steam engine that is real? It ran on a monorail with one driver in front, the other behind. They mounted glides below to prevent the little engine (and all cars) from tilting over. [ 13. October 2002, 07:10: Message edited by: watash ]
This really seems to get city folk.... Outhouse I Must say that monorail thing looks interesting. Great night shot of rail work!
