Now....aren't these the same shell as the long die-cast tenders like on the 726's?
This guy claims mint, C-8 condition...the sides are warped, the paint on the upper part and ends is worn off, BIG scratches on at least one side. Missing the coupler, cast ladder bent.....I wouldn't pay that much for the engine and tender in that condition.

I don't know why, but I have found prices on a lot of "Mint" condition stuff to always be absolutely absurd.
However, there are some exceptions every so often.

I once purchased a pair of mint F-3s for $300 (however, they were more modern ones from the 1990s with sound and such, but they were clear).

    Holy Bat Poop.
    MTH reproduction?

Eighteen Hundred clams...first clue would be the modern packing...second condition.....looking for a sucker to snag. Advertised as Lionel, when it appears to me the MTH licensed reproduction. Closest he gets to the "truth" is "Standard gauge, modern Tinplate."

Notice at Trainz.com the engine sold for $307, the cars for currently $227.

I just wait. Stuff seems to show up for my price range often (like, free). The maroon topped FM....and after he handed it to me, asked if I wanted the rest....milk crates of track, 022 and 042 switches, remote tracks, all the cars, KW, buildings, milk cars with platforms....and an OLD Kibri metal station....
Recently a baby Hudson, needed oiling and two new wires to the tender trucks.....and a 520...plus a whacking bunch of 027 cars and 027 track...and a couple of 0 manual switches...free.
Amazing the prices they ask, and you know somebody new is just going to believe them, that it's rare and worth that much...and the seller laughs all the way to the bank.....

There must be something blowing on the breeze, to cause this pricing insanity. Or maybe it's the time of year, and they're just harvesting a fresh crop of suckers?

You might be on to something. I checked my Farmers Almanac, looks like it might be the historic annual Sucker Harvest time.

I wouldn't mind having the WP A-A pair. Had those as a boy, as part of my accumulation. Loved the horn. Honked it so many times....

I wonder how much they gave to the sucker who brought it in? Oh well.
