Gil, I didn't hear a negative from you, so will post this shot of yours from a couple of years ago. I think it's a classic, N&W A, J, and Y, what a group. :D

I don't have anything new to add as all my steam locomotive photos have already been posted here. Most of them a year or two ago.

I took this at San Jose, CA in 1992. Somewhere I have a better view but will have to hunt some more.

John, Mike did good to get those shots inside the Pennsy museum. The lighting in there stinks. [IMG] Of course, that's coming from a NY Central fan, and our RR didn't see fit to save any engines and put them in a museum, except for the 2933 and 3001. :(
And Gil, your brother got some nice portraits of Steve Lee and Bob Krieger there. :D

John, I share your pain, as I have gone through that, too. Lately I have been backing up all my photo files. Don't care about the rest of the stuff. Unfortunately Gates doesn't care about ANY of our stuff. :(

I'm be biting off railroad spikes like a plain hot dog without a bum an spitting the chucks at Bill Gates like an air nailer! Talk about being hot...

As for the pictures, Once I get the disks from Mike again, I'll have more to post! :D

I just finished putting all my photos that were on the computer on to CDs. Lot easier to find when they are all in one place.

John and Mike, good stuff. I know how hard that Pennsy museum is to photograph--no light. But then, it's the Pennsy. Not the New York Central. I just got back from a fantastic weekend of steam fanning. Friday the 700 and 4449 doubleheaded. How many of today's railfans can say they rode behind two Northerns doubleheaded??? Saturday the two Northerns took turns pulling trains for a Rails to Trails thing in Portland. How to get the hikers and bikers attention, running 4-8-4's alongside the trail!! It was great. Sunday went to the Mt. Rainier Scenic RR where Climax 10 and 2-8-2T 17 were running. Should have the pix back in a few days. :D :D :D

Sounds like you had a blast Jim! I know I would have..... sure enough! :D Been droolin' on myself an everything! HA! Can't wait to see the pictures of the time you had! On the Climax.... Was it a 2 truck? Or a 3 truck? The geared loco's interest me. As I like the way they looked asn all. But I must say, I liked the Shays alot more. My favorite has to be the Western Maryland #6, three truck, 162 ton, Shay! Almost like a Pacific Coast Shay! :D

EDIT: Forgot to say, the geared loco's even the Shays will never take the place in my heart for the Mallet/Articulated steam tho! They're my favorite any an all of them.. Just I'm a preticular modeler to the B&O's......

John, the Climax is a three-truck. Yes, I had a blast all weekend, like a kid in a candy store! I would love to take you on a tour of the Mt. Rainier Scenic. If you like logging engines, this is THE place to go. Not all of their engines operate at all times, but they keep them up and have a great machine shop for such a small outfit. When I was there in 1998 for their railfan day, they had four of their own engines running plus one on loan (2-8-2) from the Chehalis, Cowlitz and Cascade RR. Sunday, beside the two operating, in the yard were Pickering Lumber Co. three truck Shay 11, MRSR three truck Heisler 91, MRSR 2-8-2 5, which is just about ready to run, having completed FRA overhaul, and a very rare Willamette (which is the same as a Shay but built by Willamette). It's not running. There are others around plus a couple of "honorary" steamers, Alco diesel switchers. The railroad itself runs from Elbe, Washington, to Mineral, about 7 miles, through beautiful northwest forest land. Even the animals there are railfans. They are so used to hearing the steamers and the whistles that they just stand there and look. There's a whole herd of elk that looked like a group of railfans when we were there in '98. The Climax is a Hillcrest Lumber Co. engine and the 2-8-2Tank is Hammond Lumber Co. Come on out and visit. :D ;) [IMG]

    Jim,
YES I'm a big steam era logging fan I love the geared loco's! :D My favorite like I said goes to the 3 truck Shay! I Love the Western Maryland #6 Shay! The biggest Shay ever built in 1945!

I tell ya Jim, I get the chance to take a road trip, I plan to meet a few of you on the west coast! As I'll do a round robin when I do.. You an Watash are the firsts.. Be great to meet you both at the same time tho, which would be hard to pull off as ones in the northwest an one in the southwest.. But would be a blast. What a buncha steam fanatics in one place! HA! :D
