Hiya Paul, I don't know if anyone else has commented on this since I haven't read all of the posts in this thread(14 pages?!?!?) but the last dozen or so pics you've posted of the Atlas cabeese show "bowed" end-railings. When I saw that in the first pic I looked at I thought maybe it was lens-distortion but the other pics I saw all cofirmed the "bowing". I wonder whether it's a bad fit or warped castings or maybe both? I'm pointing this out because the painting and decalling you've done on them is excellent and only those "crooked" end-railings spoil the "realistic" effect. Regards, Jim Maurer Tokushima, Japan
Jim, You are correct they are warped, I'm hopeing in time they will correct themselves or i may even try straightening them out.
Gats. Great job on the decal. Very tedious and I agree that patience is the key. What is this about decaling the decal? I don't understand that. Thanks.
Thanks, Flash. By decalling the decal I mean placing the lettering onto a blank piece of decal film. That way you can align it with a template whilst sitting flat on your workbench. Once dry cut out your new decal and place as one piece on the model. Same can be down with dry transfers, BTW. An overcoat of MicroScale Decal Film will prevent any movement of the lettering whilst the 'decalled decal' (tm) is being floated into place if you're worried about that happening. Richard, I think it took about 1.5 hours with breaks to allow the decals to settle before moving onto the next. I was doing two or three letters at a hit. One 'R' did get trashed so I had to make do with a modified 'B' and part of the ampersand (&). Of course there are only 6 R's in the set. The first side took longer than the second due to working out the spacing. Really, it was harder cutting the little devils out in the first place! Colonel, Can you give a quick summation of the original models vs. end product? thanks! beast p.s. great work!!!!
Here is a Atlas undec caboose repianted. Flash is now the owner of this caboose as I thought his layout would not have been complete without a MoPac caboose Flash added a few modifications as well.
And then that MoP caboose made a world tour? Looks kind of like this one that Flash plopped down on my modules at a show in San Antonio a few years ago.
Still on Tour I'm still running that one so it is still on tour. Sorry about the red X's on the thread. Of course, it happens when the pictures disappear for some reason. It does hurt the continuity of the thread.
yes the railimages photos changed folders i will have a go at repairing the links Flash did you get my email about SF?
Well after a two year hiatus in airbrushing it all pretty much came back to me. I set up the brush, compressor etc then ran some thinners through the brush. I then painted the first coat using multiple passes allowing a few minutes between hmmm so it isnt really one coat is it lol. I will now leave it for an hour then give a second coat which should complete the painting before I start decaling. 1. Model is disassembled and prepared for painting 2. Parts after first coat of paint
Looks like it coated well. I just striped a conrail to do a custom paint job just don't know what road.
One thing I have never done is strip paint of models, i know the purists will disagree but I just remove the decals and do a first coat then a final second coat.
