Apparently they could not decide how to spell Bill's name. (Schopp) I sure remember his many articles in RMC, back during the '60s.
Being mis spelled must explain why I couldn't find anything about it on the net. Will try the correct spelling... In the meantime, ran a train, and took a few progress pics. The 501 has the beginnings of a new, improved NPBH logo! Unfinished, but in process . . . Yes, there is progress on the bunker, lighting is getting figured out and prepped for, and other finish work..
It is a fun build. Still has a ways to go to achieve the look of an NP dock. Here's a pic of a similar one,
Your still missing the lift system to get them up there. Usually steam back then. It's like a ski lift.
I have the winch engine painted and in place at the back, you can see it in the last pic. The little building will have the steam plant and piping up to it. Then the cable system will be near last thing installed.
The next hardest part is going to be the coal chutes. Got to fabricate 6 of them piece by piece. Hoo boy howdy!
But, today I got distracted by "having" to go pickup a BUNCH of railroad books, a large collection with stuff from 1889 until current! Drool?? Well, I tried not to!!
@badlandnp Moose no see photos of these alleged railroad books. Must be something wrong with yer photo-posting finger...
So, for the sake of warding off a stampede, here's a few pics of all the 9 boxes of RR books, there is a large variety, some of which I have and many of which I do not. The fun will be cataloging them, then perusing them! Even a few kid types, for the grandkids to look at at Grandpa's. And I did do a little bit the last couple of mornings and evenings. Little details and some of the bigger stuff. Next up is figuring out the cable system up the ties. Which means research on NPRHA's website....
@badlandnp Ohhh, "Charlie the Choo Choo;" dare you to read that when yer all alone, late at night ... ... ... 'cause, ya'know, Steven King wrote it. Bwaaa! (insert scary moose laugh here)
Okay, I got confused between the elevated tracks supplying the bunker, and the lower tracks for the locomotives/tenders being fueled... The former are definitely not run-through, the latter could be either.
The coal loading tracks are definitely not run through at the moment, but will lead to a turntable and ash pits. I have a roundhouse, 4 stalls, but no table yet. Yet! That is a BIG project coming up some day when I have a plan. I don't like any of the commercial ones, so.... And now with the winch installed, it is easier to see that the bunker top is just a drop track. Fun stuff!
A few of the items procured in the book haul, From 1890 for the year 1889, Books full of fun facts and drawings and geekdom information! A kids book I had never heard of, And, in a scrap book he had made, a proto photo of my NP 2216! Standard NP stuff, and quite different than the USRA. But a very neat find!
