I missed it somehow, but your town is looking great! The way it's sitting on a bluff above the rails gives the opportunity for some interesting scenery. -Cody
Hi Cody, I am open to any suggestions/ideas on scenery on the town and around the bluff. Have you seen Bill's post on Japanese layouts? Here it is Japanese N Gauge Layouts - TrainBoard.com I'm already going to change the streets on the town because of this thread.
Very nice work Bernard. I only wish there were more N-Scale Japanese Layouts to drool over out there.!!
It's been some time since I posted any new work on the layout. I was finally able to work on it during MLK birthday weekend. After viewing a lot of photos of other Japanese layouts I decided to add a city in the middle of the layout with skyscrapers. Here are some photos of the platform built for the city scene.
Hi Bill, Those links that you sent in the thread that you had stated on Japanese layouts, got me rethinking about putting in an area with tall modern buildings. It looks like I'll be purchasing some new structures in the future. As you can see I started a building a main road.
It's been awhile since I've posted anything on my layout. Here a few photos of a River, a lake and an area where all 4 main lines come together.
Love the water! Nice to see you posting again. What are your plans for adding trees? Lichen? Real plants, like sedum or yarrow or various herbs or grasses? Clump folliage from WS? WS's "real" trees?
Here are the three areas I plan to work on: The 1st photo will be an elevated city with street screen. 2nd photo will be a city block with skyscrapers and possibly entrance to a station. and the 3rd photo will be covered with trees for more of a country feel.
Bernard, this might interest you. It's on a rental layout in outer Tokyo. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWSPDibsR1k"]YouTube - ã€æ–°ãŸã®ã—ã„鉄é“模型part14】DEPARTURES - 続・北海é“ç·¨[/ame] The layout is about 18' x 8', with five running lines. There's lots of plastic overhead poles, a minimum of scenery apart from landscape over and some very complicated junctions which I find evocative of the largest Japanese cities. Here's some more photos of the layout from a Japanese language web page. http://homepage2.nifty.com/peeta/gallery20080419.html It's located on the 4th floor of a building and over looks the Odakyu line near where the JR Nambu line crosses.
Hi Bill, Thanks for the video and the link! I would love to see the track plan on that layout. It's 18'x8' maybe it's me but it seems to be larger, or it just gives the appearance with all the trains running. Just one question, in the photo link, is the white kitten on the layout running DC or DCC?
The web site for the layout says to bring your own controller which almost certainly means DC in Japan. Much of the layout is Tomix which is DC only and does not offer DCC. Remember, Japanese do not build switching layouts, they run long loops using power routing switches to control different trains. There is a simple track plan on Sabuway's Japanese language web site: http://www.geocities.jp/sabu_n3/right3.html If you click on the four quadrants you'll see more photos. There are also photos at the top of the page that you can click through. This layout may be built on banquet tables which is the way the Japanese create modular layouts. This allows them to use banquet halls or meeting rooms for operating sessions. The layout with the kitten is Time Express and there web site doesn't say DCC and DCC would be very unusual in Japan. I doubt it's DCC. http://homepage2.nifty.com/peeta/gallery20080523.html y‘Ý‚µƒŒƒCƒAƒEƒgz“S“¹–ÍŒ^‚ƃOƒbƒY‚Ì“X ƒ^ƒCƒ€ƒGƒNƒXƒvƒŒƒXyVŠƒŒ§VŠƒŽsz
Here are some large photos of the layout in the video. http://www.geocities.jp/sabu_n3/DSCF2100_2.JPG http://www.geocities.jp/sabu_n3/DSCF0120_1.JPG http://www.geocities.jp/sabu_n3/DSCF2101.JPG This last photo you see the layout in the foreground and the real skyline in the background. http://www.geocities.jp/sabu_n3/DSCF0099.JPG
Here is an update on some more work that I've done on my layout. I started adding trees to a rural area.
It's been awhile but I finally started working on one of the towns for the layout. Here are a few photos of the town at night and at day.
Bernard this is a great thread of your work you have here. I went through every page and loved seeing your progress. I just got hooked on trains in the last month and I am in the planning stages of my basement layout. It was wonderful to see how everything progressed with yours. I am leaning toward n gauge because of space concerns, but I also have a fascination with Bullet trains and Amtrak in N scale. This is why your thread is a treat. Have you ever made any videos of your trains in operation?
