Hey Rick, are you sure Busy Bee still has them? I went in Saturday moring and upon leaving left them with only three of thier shipment left. They are very nice units and make my unmodified Concors look, well, like less of a caboose. Man they look good with my new hycubes from ExactRail.
Oh Where Oh Where Did My Cabooses Go? Big John, So, your the culprit that bought them up. Wait till I see you next time. Which was supposed to be at the RoundHouse Gang Swap Meet...today. Lousy alarm clock...I missed my ride. Sheez! I probably needed the rest anyways. No problem, really. I'm glad you got them. Now, I can stop by your place and watch what should of been..hee hee... my crummies, running around, your layout...LOL. Nothing like putting a guilt trip on someone. John, the truth is I can't afford to make it happen right now. So, it will have to wait. I can only hope a second run will hit soon. Me thinks I have it worked out...we shall see.smile:
Shark Infested Waters Feeding Frenzy Ahead From "The for what it's worth Department" What we seem to have done here is create a feeding frenzy. No, I'm not calling all of you sharks...JUST SOME OF YOU. The point is we start talking about a said product and all of a sudden everyone starts to hit the hobby shops, desperate to buy theirs. Most hobby shops kind of like that as the product gets moved off the shelf and the cash flow remains healthy. Not to mention they get a chance to sell you a dust catcher...an add on or something else you don't need and that can't be all bad. Other hobby shops will order on a reservation basis and that only, which creates it's own kind of buying frenzy. Something I won't participate in but... I may change my mind. I just finished checking and got an e-mail last night. There are a number of hobby shops here in Southern California that still have the SP Bay window cabooses. Not wanting to create anymore of a frenzy, I won't say where. Since you insist...OK...here are two, but that's all you get. May I suggest if you are in a feeding frenzy and you just have to have one call Arnie's (look it up yourself) or Train Stop in San Dimas. One I've already mentioned is Busy Bee although, they may be out of them by this writing. Still I think this is the most overlooked little hole in the wall...with plenty of parking in back. As far as my getting in on the first run...it's been worked out. No problem. Thanks to a good friend. He has an idea that might work...I think and he hopes. Grin!
I'm sure that is correct. Yes, I want one or two or three or...... Has anyone checked out the other options Ie. Western Pacific, Rock Island and more?
Well no luck at the LHS. I see one on eBay for 35 plus 5 shipping.. yeah right. Hmm, where online could Bob be talking about?
I've checked Fifer's, he is showing "Second Run MTL". Also checked, Discount Rails, Go Hobbies and woo woo woo woo woo woo. They show "Out of Stock" or Nothing advertised... unless they are still adding them to their computer systems. Disclaimer: It seems as fast as I find a sight that shows in stock it changes to out of stock. Sorry about that. We have us an honest feeding frenzy. Athearn - N RTR Bay Window Caboose, WP #461 You may be able to purchase directly. I thought the WP, pictured here looked pretty good. Athearn Caboose, Bay Window, C-50-9 Southern Pacific, #4711 140-23211 Out of Stock http://www.nscalesupply.com/ATH/ATH-RS-Bay-Window-Caboose.html Sweet Price no indicator for in or out of stock. These are just a few of the ones, I've looked into. I went to Wig Wag and George shows he is taking reservations...my guess is for a second run. This might be of interest to some of you Santa Fe Fans. Wig-Wag, LLC (Wig-Wag-Trains.com) CCS 6000-Series CE Caboose Page I would suggest you do a Google search: N Scale Athearn Bay Window Caboose. You may find yourself a sweet deal...there again maybe not. I hope this helps others of you, who like me are wanting one or two or three and need to wait. It appears there is a second run coming for MTL and Athearn. Have fun!
Judging from this, I think it would be wise of anyone seeking the SP #1776 Bicentennial scheme coming out in about February to go ahead and place a pre-order now. There's also a red one and, IIRC, a Kodachrome schemed one. I know most people don't like the pre-order thing. I am pretty much with you. It's just that I also hate seeing my fellow SP modelers going without.
I got an email response back from N Scale Supply 2 days ago saying that they had a few left in stock. What they did not tell me (and I had asked) was how many and what road numbers. I don't want to duplicate road #'s right now, nor do I want to purchase 3, thinking I'm getting them all, and only have one ship. So I skipped them. I received an email from a friend telling me of a place that showed them in stock and I did buy all 3 road #'s, but I have yet to get any kind of confirmation, so I'm betting that they are for the next run.... which will erk me, since I want all 3 of the current run. Ugh, pre ordering suuukkksss. Mike
Adam, I don't typically pre-order or make reservations. Today, I'd agree. With the feeding frenzy what it is, it would be a good idea to make a pre-need (oops funeral business talk) I mean pre-order. The only down side is they can be canceled. Lot's of luck to all of you who are in the market for a Bay Winder. Have fun!
I don't think Athearn has cancled an announcement yet. It's a pretty safe bet that they will come in. Hopefully they overproduce the next batch a little more to cash in on their sucess.
Even if they are canceled, (the way they are selling I don't think that's likely), you won't lose anything. No dealer I deal with takes my money until the order comes in. My problem is forgetting what I have on order, I mistakenly thought I had pre-ordered the last three UP heritage SD70Aces and happily watched them sell out everywhere.:tb-embarrassed:
