I'm not saying I wont buy any, might save time buying some....but $99 for two cars, some $99 a piece....so that makes a 25 car train mighty expensive!
Very true...oh so true. Now if I could finish my other 8 million projects, I could maybe start a new one.
WOW! Wow, OC Engineer JD, this is some seriously fantastic work! I've always loved the looks of the AFT and thought it would be cool to model as well. Keep up the good work, man!
Yes! I have one on order from Chuck at Feather River and am looking forward to it! The picture looks like they did a good job on this one.
Mark, Did you receive one? I have one on order, which will join my other GS-4 that you just fixed. Adam
No I can't afford one right now, but kato definitely succeeded with that model photo. This one is definitely on my want list now!!
Ok I never posted before but have been a member for a few months or more anyway I picked up on this thread and have just gotten my Kato GS4 AFT and would very much like to know who is the Todd that is referenced with accesss to decals for the AFT train as I too am going to do this if the proper decal set is avaliable , anyway am a n scale guy and member of Calwell Model RR clun in Caldwell Idaho and if you look at CMRCHS.ORG you will see what the club is up to and yes my personal layout is in my living room--- I have a great wife !!
The decals are produced by the guy who runs the Theme Trains website. This bit of that website shows the decal pages available. Though it says HO, you can specify and he will produce N scale decals to order.
Been decaling one side of the 4 Bachmann cars, the Combo or Pie car #202, the Bar car #203, the Office car #204, and the Press/Observation car #205. Will see if the wife will let me use her camera after I finish them and get a photo posted.
Ok, got a photo. Heres the 4 cars with one side almost done. Still have to add the numbers, then flip over and start the other side. These will get the JnJ roofs and then I will add detailing to the roofs, curtains and blinds in the windows as well as 'glass'. The bottoms will be painted black as well as the ends.
How close are these coaches to the originals? Have you made any modifications prior to painting? These were coaches subsequently sold to the Provincial Government of British Columbia for use on the museum train. They went on to serve on the Royal Hudson excursion train and the BC Rail business train. Tim
These models are 65 foot cars, and the AFT cars were 72 foot cars. They are very close, aside from a window here or there. The combo did have an extra small door on the sliding door side and a fan between the sliding door and windows. Splicing two cars together for a few extra feet and windows seemed like a lot of work for little return. I'm a 'close enough' modeler, and aside from a few that would notice the 'missing' windows I'm fine with it. I think once the whole train is done, these small details wont even be missed. (I hope anyway!LOL)
Yes, the JnJ roofs will definitely add to the appearance. I have some stockpiled for the same purpose. I was unable to find the Bachmann cars on their website or any of the common etailers sites so I am assuming that they are no longer available. Very good work on the train. Your project is very similar to my Provincial Museum train project, but I have fewer cars to do. Unfortunately the required steam locomotive is a major kitbash. Tim
