The ES&NA RR #4742, Locomotive #4742, an 0-4-4-0 first-generation diesel switcher, SW-1, built in 1942 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in LaGrange, Ill. Serial #1379, 34,000 lb tractive effort. The only remaining functional locomotive on-site, now handles both passenger excursion and lunch/dinner trains.

      Nice picture, I like the paint scheme. Oh by the way railroads don't use wheel configurations to describe diesel engines like this > 0-4-4-0, they are only used to describe steam engines. We either say a 8 wheel drive or 12 wheel drive to describe diesel engines. That looks like a EMD NW-2 unit.

      If you know all about EMD.....check number of stacks, check length of hood, check obstructions on frame at front blocking lower part of where radiator would be.
      Recalculate.

      Yes, correct. Only steam uses the Whyte system of designating wheel arrangement; such as 0-4-0 , 2-8-0, 2-8-8-2, 4-8-4, 2-6-2, etal.. Diesel is either a 4 axle, 6 axle, ( FM C Liners are 2 axle at front and 3 axle at rear. LIRR among others, used these. But I never knew why). Same for traction axles. ....M
