Ok, I got now. Funny thing is I do that on my buildings, but never thought of doing it on rolling stcok. Thanks!
Chris - When you say cement, do you mean a concrete dry cement powder or something else? ...and then just dry brush it on and then Dullcoat. ...don
These smaller than normal cars were used in cement service, 50 cars built in 1934. There is scale drawing along with an article to model one in O scale back in the Aug 1975 MR. So I just used a grey/tan color to look like the powder that might spill: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/el/frt/erie20012ab.jpg The paint I use is from craft stores and like $1.00 a bottle: http://www.bolekscrafts.com/deltap1.jpg I have "Drizzle Grey" and "Mudstone" that I use a lot. There are many other natural colors to choose from. Here is another old photo taken with a webcam: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1102993883044296030IDUBmF The big car on the left is the Kato car I started with: http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/558/ErieCHopper1.jpg The dry brushing will stay without Dullcote, but yeah I probably gave this a shot of Dullcote.
