Painted by Nick Lorusso (odd1rails) in NP Raymond Lowey 2 Tone Green, for my North Coast Limited train. :shade:
Oh my, that looks nice! I can't wait to see more photos. Is Lowely the same guy who designed the GG1? Rob
Yes, Raymond Lowey was a popular industrial designer of the day, and the GG1 was one of his more well known works!
I saw those black NP F's. Are you doing a set to match these Green/Cream cars? Nice job on the paint too!
Well, the window arrangement is wrong too, but Nick did say yesterday that he was thinking of sanding the corrigations off of one of the other cars. I gave him 25 cars, and an ABA shell set to start with. Later on we will explore core kits, as I can cut those with my laser, then drawing up etched brass car sides. It would be so much easier if I could convince the N Scale guys to do a shrink on their etched brass car sides drawings so we could go that route. Nick wants SP&S cars, I want NP cars, with the correct mix of Slumbercoach cars, CB&Q and SP$S cars for a better NCL. I spent a week coming up with decals for my NCL, incliding the 2" white stripe. I even did drumheads for the NCL and the Mainstreeter. Now all I need is the correct cars, and some good running F units! Make due with these Santa Fe cars for now.
RE: bashing marklin coaches: sanding the sides is a breeze, if you're careful. filling is a pain. i tried to fill the side of my baggage car to smooth it (along the top -- ala Rio Grande prototype) and it just took too much work and never came out right. i've sanded the top corrigations off my coaches and it wasn't hard to do. put a piece of masking tape along the highest corrigation under the window and it will help protect things if you slip or push too much. one more caution, the blue B&O (or it is C&O?) cars are made of a different plastic than the rest (compared to amtrak and SP coaches -- all by Marklin). the blue is like cardboard, almost. VERY soft --GO SLOW! fyi. dave f.
