    Yreka Western 11/11/08 AM

The little shortline that refused to die, The Yreka Western Railroad has been sold to a Michigan business.
Railmark Holdings is purchasing the Yreka Western from the Rocky Mountain Railroad & Mining Museum.
The Yreka Western was bought in the fall of 2000 by the Rocky Mountain Railroad & Mining Museum. In the September 26, 2000 Surface Transportation Board filing the Yreka Western was operated under the Colorado Central Railroad banner.
Railmark president & CEO B. Allen Brown has already made arrangements to pay off outstanding notes on the 2-8-2 Mikado locomotive and the depot.
Action on the transaction is still pending until approval from the Surface Transportation Board.
The final authorization from the STB is expected by the end of this month.

    Shortline hopefully saved

Hopefully this news is true. The Yreka Western and other shortlines have a flavour all their own. Each is unique in their own way.
Maybe there is enough business to keep the rails shiney and the 19 in steam.
