I like to ride the rare excursions that come up, like the one next month with UP 844 and SP 4449. I'm sure many of you have shot photos of the train you were riding. I have many, and will post more. For starters, here's a shot of the westbound segment of the NRHS convention train 2005, featuring 4449 and SP&S 700 in the Columbia River Gorge. :teeth:
I have a few shots from the cab that I could share if only I could figger out how to do it. I have a scanner but chances are that I wont be able to get the photo over here. Please dont bother wasting bandwidth trying to explain to me how to do it cuz I've tried a number of times and nothing works. If you wanna tell me backchannel, go ahead, but I prolly still wont be able to make it work. CT
Austin Steam Train "Hill Country Flyer" in 1993. UP 3985 trip from Houston to San Antonio via Valley Jct. outside Hearne in 1992. Denver & Rio Grande on the High Line between Silverton and Durango in 1971.
Think Russell, you'll be able to replicate that ASTA Hill Country Flyer ride next year, albeit with better track.
OK, Campp and Russell, we got it rollin' now. Here's an eastbound run from the same trip as first shot. 700 on the point, in the gorge.
Here's one of my latest, from my trip this month to ride the train through the Copper Canyon in Mexico. Here, we're still up on the relatively flatter country before heading down into the canyons. This is just south of Creel. By the way, you can see more of this on my thread on the trip: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=87843 Regards Ed
Actually all the cars have them, they just don't show up that well in this photo. They are air conditioners. Each car has a diesel motor/generator set below the floor to power them. Some of the photos on my trip thread will show them better. Regards Ed
August, 2004, IX National Model Railroad and Railfan Convention in Mexico. Fan trip run on the Sunday afternoon. Powered by TFM, most cars belonged to the "Express de la Independencia" (private). Ran between San Luis Potosà and Aguascalientes. By the way, the "Express de la Independencia" never got off the ground. Unfortunately, I believe that the owner has now sold off most of the cars, with most of them going to Cuba. Regards Ed
Here's another Columbia Gorge shot from 1996 or 97. It's tough duty to live so close to 4449. This is an old film shot and not too clear, but I just had to include it. Searching for my "dirty diesels" shot from 1991 behind the 3751.
Riding the Southwest Chief Shot these pictures from the Southwest Chief on the way home from Kansas City. These were taken in Fort Madison IA. Shot these 2 just west of Galesburg
