I got this warning from Safari on IOS this morning when I logged in. It was not a "click here" popup, but a message telling me to go to Trainboard using a secure method and update my password. A quick search here shows nothing. Is this a thing now, or is software somewhere being alarmist? And yes, I noticed after posting that I fat-fingered the thread title...
I didn’t get a message from Safari that my TrainBoard password was compromised. If there was a breach I would think everyone that uses Safari and is on TB would get that message. I have gotten messages from Safari that some of my older passwords are too easy for a hacker to guess but that’s different.
If the message hadn't come from the settings app on my phone, and told me to navigate here without using any links, in order to change my password, that would have been my thought, as well.
I found it in my passwords on my iPhone. It says my TrainBoard password was in a data leak and I should change it. Apple devices let you know if your passwords have been compromised. It’s real. I’ll be changing my password.
First I have ever heard of such a thing happening. When, where, how? Needing much more information to even look into such a thing.
My password here is really simple and I used to use it for lots of websites back in the early days of my internet use so the data breach may have nothing to do with TB, just that my simple password is compromised.
I would want to believe that the most popular browser, Google Chrome, might also have capabilities and would be warning folks of such events.
When between a third and half of the spam I get comes from compromised Gmail addresses, I have to wonder about that.
I checked my saved passwords and found 2 for TB. The one that I am currently using is somewhat complicated and there is no issue. The second one is my old password that I changed a few years ago and is the one that was in a data breach. There is no problem with TB, just the old password that I haven’t used in a few years. I used that old password for lots of sites for a long time. One of those sites was breached. Everyone can rest assured, TrainBoard is secure.
I haven't specified until now, but I did change my password for TB, in case anybody thinks I'm a total moron...
Chrome (and Chromium) has had Password Checkup for over a decade. Firefox has it as well. Opera even has it. Most people don't take the time to CONFIGURE their browser after installing it. This is a feature that needs to be configured by you.
Whenever I discover that Google has saved one of my passwords (without my permission or because my finger was too big for the icon), that's when I change it.
