Here is a "Pony" #4130 taken from as close as we could get without haveing the weed weasels shoot us! This is winter, so the contrast is as good as it gets. [ 23 July 2001: Message edited by: watash ]

Anything EMD. However, since safety cabs are the current trend, I'll go with the SD70Ms (their rarity is a factor in my choice):
Gotta be the 16xx series. Best loco ever built. However the c36-7's and c39's wear the thouroughbreds the best.

What is my favorite Norfolk Southern engine ? Well now lets see here is it the GE -8's or the GE -9's maybe the CW's ? There all amongst my most favorite engines. But as I sit here typing this post out I turn to my model railroad of which I can see the Roanoke engine facility, one engine is coming to mind. But dose it qualify as a " Norfolk Southern " ? Well lets see, She is defiantly a Thoroughbred of her time. She was built by one of the railroads that made up the Norfolk Southern, so she has the royal blood line in her. There once was a time when other Norfolk Southern trains would stop and stand at attention with an honorary salute to her as she passed. At one time she was just one of many but now she is just one who represents what was once a proud and distinct class of engines. So who is this famed engine who has my vote as my favorite Norfolk Southern engine ? The Norfolk and Western Class "J" # 611 !
Gotta be the -2's harold High nose rules! Not many RR's can boast that. It is a shame to see the SD40-2 demoted to yard service. Thats progress. Nice pics by the way
quote:
Originally posted by chessie: Would that be high-nosed: or low-nosed? and are you expressing a preference for SD40's vs. SD40-2's??
