I just got an N scale set about 3 months ago and made it go in a circle. I knew i needed more. I bought some turn outs and flex track. Then built a 3x5 layout. On plywood and foam made a river one raized track. My wife bought a few bulidings. I made my own bridges. What I need are plans for other buildings so that I can build my own on the cheap. My boss told of plans to have a lay off . They cut back to me (last hired).

Please if you know of any good places to find plans for N scale buildings, like church, houses, watertower, school...I'd appreciate any thing you could help with. I want it to look like a small, sleepy mountain town, dating pre 60s.

Thank you for any help, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Welcome aboard!

Your first stop could be the public library. Plans might not come in N scale, but any number of history or architecture books should have a good variey, and a ruler and calculator should let you convert the sizes.

Another option would be to free-lance. You know what you want and how much space you have; after that, exact measurements are nowhere near as important as proportions that look right. It's worth a try, after all.

Hope this helps and look forward to hearing more.

    Welcome

Some of my sources of low cost model ideas are:
THE DOLLAR STORE (cars, trucks, etc)
    YARD SALES (model train items)
AUCTIONS (rare but sometimes good find)
HOBBY SHOP DEALER (asks other customers for unwanted items) I buy the lot for a very low price and use for modeling parts.
BACK YARD (twigs, plants for model trees)
USED COFFEE GROUNDS dried well in micro-wave(dirt, balast, etc)
    WALL PAPER BORDERS (scenic backdrops)

Here is a Web Site that will keep you busy with model building ideas.
    Building Models Links

Scratch building can be the most enjoyable part of the hobby.

    ..Goodluck and enjoy

Welcome to Trainboard i'm sure you have come to the right place for information.
You might want to try the local library for copies of model railroader magazine as it has feature articles with plans of buildings.

Browse the net for articles or modellers layouts will also give you lots of ideas. In the next few days I will be posting some pics of building built for me out of cardstock for my layout.

Once again welcome to Trainboard and I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

    Conductor,

Check out the "All-Guage Model Railroad Page" at http://www.thortrains.com as they have some N-Scale buildings that you can print out and assemble. I haven't personally attempted this but I've heard good feedback from others. Enjoy!

There are usually some building plans in the railroad magazines, Model Railroading, Railroad Model Craftsman, etc. You can also get plans at your local county/city office in county/cities that require a copy of any new building blueprints be filed. Remember that N-Scale is 1/160 real scale. Thus, a building that is 80 ft on one side would be 6" in N-Scale. Welcome to the hobby.

Paul, that will look great when you get the area finished! Wish I had the space for some non-railroad buildings :(

I look forward to seeing more of that section of your layout.
