Is Xtrkcad the most user friendly cad program? I tried to download from Sillub, but they are having problems with their download sites. http://www.sillub.com/ Does anyone know of another site to download this program? Are there any other programs that are user friendly and do a nice job? Thanks in advance.................... Lon
If you go with XTrkCAD, be sure to go through the tutorial. It is apparently the key to understanding how it works (according to the track planning guru at my local club). I use a Mac, and it is not compatible. Before I switched from PC to Mac, I used RTS (Right Track Software) from Atlas, and that is reasonably easy. A commercial product that is often given top marks is 3rd Plan-it, but I do not know what the $$$ is. I have not used it. Hope that helps. Andrew
I believe I read on another site that RTS by Atlas was only good for those using Atlas track/products...............Is this correct? Lon
That's correct. RTS from Atlas is actually a custom version of Winrail 7 and only accepts the Atlas product libraries (both track and structures). But if that is what you want to use, it actually works great! I used it to design my current layout (100% Atlas HO Code83 SnapTrack). I switched to 3rd PlanIt when it came to scenery and structures because I wanted a 3D view and independant library. I found RTS pretty easy to use but don't know how it compares to XtrakCAD when it comes to ease-of-use since I haven't used XtrakCAD.
Thanks Diezman .............. I'm building a "G" scale layout...........I don't know if Atlas makes that size track....so the RTS by Atlas may be a moot point......I'm really a newbee at this!! Heard that the XTRKCAD was fairly simple to use. Lon
I wonder what the problem is with their downloadings? Anyhow, very nice of Tim to put it up on his web site! Boxcab E50
Also available for download at the Yahoo! XTRACAD group! XTrkCad On Yahoo You gotta join the group to get the install but hey, there's a lotta good help to be had there.
I found this site also..........has a few other downloads that may be of interest!! http://www.nscale.org/downloads.htm I'm finding a lot of great guys on this site!! Wish there was a little more activity on the G scale side.........kind of quiet there...
I checked that out once. They seemd to be having a bunch of feuding ongoing. Hope that's all smoothed out now. Boxcab E50
Bayaar - I wish I could afford it but that would take a couple of acres in the south west to have a layout where a bullet train would look good.
No problem Grey One.....just save up for some more $$$ for acreage.........I've been posting all around the forums and have been getting great support. I still have a lot more questions!! I know all you guys will have the answers..........need to research a good controller......any hints would be very helpful. Lon
Boxcab, The fueding was between developers and developers and users. Developers have taken all thier development crap to the FORGE site. Nuttin but us users hangin' in that group now. And it's alot more peacefulnd and a lot less busy.
Thanks Diezman ..... from the three of us....Angler (N), Bayaar (G), and Cowboy (N........He hasn't registered yet, but has been reading the posts) Lon
