Hellllllllllllp. I cant use those silly programs (even though I'm very computer literate), so I wondered if one of you very nice, very knowledgable people would draw a track plan for me [IMG] )) I have a 'roughed out' drawing on my railimages that just needs to be done 'perfeshinully' so it looks purdy and gives me an idea on whether it will actually fit...

    Heres the layout :

If anyone can assist, I'll be eternally thankful <grovels>

ACH! Some points.... The bottom track on the bottom benchwork..those 3 sidings are meant to be an inglenook.... so the long siding is 5 cars and the other 2 are 3 cars.

At the top right, it looks like the 2 mainline tracks join at a switch at the end of that green 'blotch' thats meant to be a mountain.... Well. actually, they cross there. The inside track goes straight down and joins the track below the mountain..this is the 'high' line. The outside curve passes under the inside track and joins what looks like a long spur in the middle of the benchwork to make a biiiig long curve. You can see that in this other pic on railimages :

once again, I'd be very grateful to anyone with even a modicum of xtrkcad or atlass rr experience if they can draw this up for me [IMG] ))

I'd be happy to draw something up for you, but I'd need more information. The drawing has no grid, so I have no idea what the benchwork sizes are. What sort of minimum radius do you want? Do you want easement curves, and if so, how large? What are the track elevations and grades that you want? For the inglenook, what size sidings do you want?

Ahh, greg, thats the problem with paint shop pro. The room is 12' across by 16' down.

The logging area benchwork is 2' wide and starts 2' from the left wall. The mainline and town benchwork is 3' wide. The town benchwork is 3' from the left wall.

Ignore the peninsula and trackwork..pretend it doesnt exist.

Radii should be as wide as possible (HO scale). The mainline can 'creep' onto the logging and town benchwork to widen the radii a bit. Easements would be good on the mainline, but not essential. I wont be running long cars. Mainline is essentially flat, with the outside track along the back wall being elevated for the crossover at the top right. Use a small an grade as you feel comfortable with (because it will still be elevated a little after the curve, I think)

The inglenook.... now, I will only be using 40' cars down there. 5 40' cars fit in about 2'6, so the 5 car siding should be that long, with the 3 car ones shorter. Just to make it prettier, if all 3 could end 'lined up' I'll set my own 'logical boundaries' and use the honesty system for not putting 4 in em [IMG]

Mike, the links should work.... If you cut and paste what I put in there, without the .jpg, it will take you to the page.....

Thanks a lot guys..... your life savers.

This is HO? You do realize that your minimum radius is going to be less than 18", right? I'd thought you were planning to do this in N scale, where that's a broad curve. I'm not sure I understand why you're trying to have a double tracked mainline here when the inside radius is at most 15". I'd encourage you to reconsider this plan, but if you want, I can still draw it up for you.

Oh, I also need to know what kind of turnouts you'd like to use.

Greg, its actually a folded dogbone rather than a double main, and there has to be room to put up a bed...hence my width is 36".

I'm inlined to agree on the fact that it should be n scale..... Hell, do oit in N.. I dont have that much equipment in HO anyway and I can use that on a door [IMG]

Turnouts...up to you. Probably #6 or larger.

Here is a drawing done in XTrkCad based on your layout design. Let me know if you see anything that needs to be changed. If you send my your email address, I'll email you the XTrkCad file.

    absolutely exquisite Greg...that was fast!

Can you send it to disisme@disisus.com please.

    I'm eternally thankful!

What track did you use in xtrkcad?

I used Peco medium turnouts and a few wyes. The track spacing is 1.25" on center and the minimum mainline radius is 14" with some 12" radius sidings in the town section. I've sent you the file.
