    Hello all

I have come accross an unusual problem, and am hoping for help in fixing it. I love playing around with XTrkCad but it dosen't love my computer. Whenever I istall it, even after a complete reformat and fresh install of Win XP (twice). It corrupts my registry.

As soon as I install XtrkCad, my registry becomes corrupted, this is easiest to see in the "Add and Remove Programs" folder. After the program list I have pages and pages of Black Fields and Checkerboards.

I have not yet installed XtkCad this time. I am hoping one of you might know how I can fix this. I am guessing since no one else seems to be having issues, the problem is either me or my computer.

    I need my XtrkCad fix....

    Thanks

    Shane

I have a serious hunch it is not the program or XP. Something else in your machine is doing it. The program installs and runs perfectly with XP.

I have also installed XTrkCAD on 2 computers, one XP Home laptop and one XP Pro Desktop, without problems. Only drawback that it doesn't run if I log in as single user but only as administrator.

Here's a review of registry fixer programs:

    http://consumer-review.org/registry.html

If you do find a problem, be sure to turn it in to the XTrkCAD development folks!

It's not his computer. After reading this, I decided to check my Add/Remove programs and there all the checkerboards were.

On this machine I am using both 3.1.4 and the new 4.0 beta. Not sure which one caused this.

My network admin is not going to be happy.

    Hi Again

Thank you for the quick response, all. I haven't had difficulty running XTrkCad, it is just that it seems to effect my registry. I guess that as long as the program runs and my computer runs; I will live with it. I enjoy the program too much to do with out.

I have tried 3.1.2 and 3.1.4 and 4.0 from the forge site.

Now that pasayten has made a parameter file for the 29mm and 45.5mm pieces I MUST start playing (planning) again.

Again thanks for the quick response.

OK. I did a little bit of quick looking.

It's not really a Registry corruption. But a problem with how the add/remove item is listed for XTrkCad. Probably a bug in the install program or some corrupted DLL. So here is a quick fix:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit32, and then click OK
    3. In the Registry Editory, locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Expand this folder, and scroll down until you see "XTrkCad" in the listing. Select that "folder" and delete it.

This will delete it out of the add/remove program listing, but you can uninstall the program by finding and executing:

    C:\Program Files\XTrkCad\uninst\fimain.exe

    Greg

NOTE: Editing the registry wrong can severly screw up your machine. Do this at your own risk. I take no responsibility if you decide to take my advice. :) I did this on my laptop just now with no problems.

    Thank you Greg!!!

I guess I didn't really know what I was talking about... When I described my Blackfields and Checkerboards to computer savy friends they all (well both) said it was a corrupt Registry (which I knowis bad).

Now its all better and I feel good.

My system did not recognize regedit32... regedit worked just fine.

Thanks again for your help Greg and Everyone.

Ok, I'll bite.. where'd you find 4.0? I searched all over the forge site and couldn't find any exe downloads.

    Did you build it yourself?
