The question pops up from time to time: Are XTRA Lease trailers transported on trains? I suspect the question arises from the dearth of XTRA Intermodal trailers from Atlas, and a relative abundance of the Lease trailers. Well, I thought I was an intermodal modeler, but I never even realized there was a difference between XTRA Lease and XTRA Intermodal... FWIW, woo woo woo's is showing 13 XTRA Lease trailers in stock (Atlas 45' Pines) and 42 XTRA Intermodal (45' and 48' Pines), so it seems like both are well represented. When did the XTRA Lease/Intermodal 45's fall out of favor? I have some from before the 48's were thought of an I'm curious if they're keepers for '98/'99. Probably gonna keep 'em regardless but just trying to research a little. I've been finally finding some relevant YouTube footage but even at that it's sometimes difficult to tell how long a trailer is.
They're keepers for 98/99 Doug. Pines were building these 45'ers up to 1995 and the Nov 98 / Jan 99 issues of RMJ on modelling these trailers has photos of them taken in 1997. I'm pretty sure I shot some in 2006 too... there was still a fare few 45'ers hauling UPS traffic at that time.
