The handrails in the photo are straight from the factory. They did a injection molded red therefore the color is way off. They got a lot of complaints for it, and if you ask me we should be able to expect better from such a well known company. Even if I use a flat overcoat on it the color will still be off if I were to choose to correct the walkways and hand rails I would just paint the whole piece that includes walkways and hand rails. It is hard to match any factory paint when it comes to the WSOR. Although where I renumbered It i touched it up and u don't notice it (but thats in a very small area). I'm not sure if I should paint that whole piece or not. When you start painting larger areas it is more noticeable that the paint is not a match, but than again my red is a closer match than Kato's red plastic.

Now that you mention it, I guess the color is a bit off. I thought it was just the glossiness of the plastic since it was so new. You could always buy a spare set of handrails from Kato... that way if the paint doesn't match you won't have to worry about "ruining" anything. If it does match, the swap only takes a few minutes. I love SD40-2's
