Actually the move has taken place but the WP museum at Portola California has two of the fab four f units together, 921 & 917. SN 712 came along with the 917 in the trade.

Hope these links work, they show the return move with the equipment. You will notice three gondolas; they contain the Inter-locking tower from Oakland. We called it Maggie, short for Magnolia Tower. It will be re-assembled in Portola at the museum. The UP diesel you see is an GP38-2, not part of the acquisition but a unit there for power should the 707, 2001 and SP GP-9 fail. Fortunately it wasn't needed.

Whew! That web site is awful. Jiggly pop-ups, etc. Made me dizzy.

Is this all stuff incoming to permanent collection at Portola? What were the other cars in that train? Other ex-WP equipment?

Sure is a pretty sight, seeing those colors. Too bad the successor company lacks that class.

I agree, the web site is tacky. Don't know how many times I've been the 1,000,000 visitor. :D Some of the equipment will move on to Omaha and some of it wasn't museum equipment but regular cars for moving the equipment. The F unit, GP-7 and cabooses will stay at Portola as will one of the baggage cars.

Glad to hear it's annoying to more than just my eyes. [IMG] You'd think after a few years, they'd come up with a new con to snag the gullible.

How much restoration needs to be done on the new motive power? What sort of plans does Portola have for showing off these jewels?

    :D

Well first off, we are having a Railfan day. Totally spaced on it myself, and have the info below. Didn't have one last year and the year before that, it was in the fall. So this one snuck up on me. Anyway after that, they will be out for the public to see. Both engines, 917D and 712 are need of some fine tune up work. I guess there is a major spider population to take care of first. Once the 917 is up and running, we will take 921 out of the "Run a Locomotive" program and start refurbishing her, inside and out.

New information for Portola Railroad Museum Railfan Photographer's Day!

The FRRS is please to announce that it will be offering tours of our OPERATING Southern Pacific Rotary Snowplow. Also, at various times during the day, the plow blade will be spun up for photo opportunities. Don't miss this unique chance to get inside an operational rotary snowplow.

Join us on Saturday, May 21, 2005 for this special day devoted to recreating period railroading from the 1950's and 60's. Railfan Day opens at 10:00 AM and runs until 10:00 PM or when the final photo session ends.

The PRM will be operating vintage trains of authentic equipment for viewing and photography. There will also be static displays, railroadiana vendors, slide shows and a special night photo shoot hosted by Winterail's Vic Neves.

Vic Neves will also be offering a class in NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY before the photo shoot. Come learn from one of the best known night photographers working today.

Tickets are $20 per person for all day admission. Our $30 combo ticket includes BBQ lunch and dinner at the museum. Meals will also be available
separately: $5 lunch and $8 for dinner.

Tickets are available at the gate, in our Gift Shop, by phone at 530.832.4131 or on-line at www.WPLives.org <http://www.wplives.org/> . Just click on the RAILFAN DAY news item to reach our secure, on-line ordering.

Mark your calendar and plan on attending this unique event!

    WP Lives in Portola, CA!

That website has too many annoying popups, makes me dizzy as well.
And I didn't have anything to drink last night!

Yes, those colors sure are gorgeous! I liked the pacing shots.
Megamergers suck sometimes, when they distace themselves fro a colorful heritage and a classy operation.
