I dont recall these kind of crummies on the WP. What is the history of this Caboose? http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=2001082620542018380.jpg&byrail:1:Western_Pacific
The WP cabooses that had cupolas were wooden. The early ones were double sheathed and later cabooses made from box cars were outside braced. Some time around WWII WP went to the bay window design when they were rebuilding them. That one is definitely a fantasy caboose, while the paint scheme is semi accurate. The main difference was WP had solid orange ends and any striping was white and 3 or 4 inches wide and maybe 12 to 16 inches long. Greg Elems
Sort of looks CB&Q-ish. Talking of cabs, anyone have drawings, or a scan of drawing, of those ex-outside-braced boxcar rebuilds they would care to send me? There was an article in RMC late '91 from memory , which I probably haven't got. I would like to build one for a friend's Xmas present and asking for a copy of the article would be a little too obvious.
Are you talking about the WP outside braced bay window cabooses? There were drawings of the bay windows in RMC some time around 1972 or so. I have the drawings some where for those cabooses but it may take some time to locate them. Greg
Thanks Greg, I was pretty sure this was a fantasy job, but just wanted to check to make sure I had not lost my brain along the way. Brad
You are welcome Brad. I remember reading about those cabooses, most of them were fantasy paint jobs but since they were saved from the torch...... Cheers, Greg Elems
