Today I had the pleasure of visiting the superb Coon Creek & Tumbleweed Springs logging layout. Hence the title of this post! It is quite simply awesome Don't think Paul realised I took this picture, but here is the master at the control panel
A line-up of some of the varied locomotives at the depot. Close-up of the detail on a diesel. The depot water tank.
A log train emerges from the tunnel, hauled by a "critter" Even when no trains, structures or people are visible, the layout is still extremely photogenic
Thanks to Paul for the long-standing invitation, I had a very enjoyable day and an insight into the fascinating world of logging railroads Trouble is, visitors to the Coon Creek could very easily become infected with the "logging railroad virus"!
Thanks, Alan, and thanks, Paul for building yet another world class layout. Living in the Pacific NW of the USA, if I were a modeler I would be tempted to do logging. We have the Mt. Rainier Scenic still operating, the Mt. Emily Lumber Shay in Prineville, the Sumpter Valley, and remnants of many abandoned logging roads. Those geared steamers are fascinating creatures.
Great attention to details. I like the gull on the water tank! Also, the first photo with Paul gives an even better impression for the size of his trees! Boxcab E50
"WOW" is right Alan! That is some layout none the less..... GREAT work Paul! And Alan, you've got a GREAT eye for catching detail! Beautifull work... the layout an your eye Alan, makes me wish I could make a trip over the pond to have a look for myself! As for the logging virus, I've been infected since I learned of the Western Marylands No. 6 Shay! Biggest an last Shay built out of the Lima Loco Shops.... And now, I'm trying to work in a logging, minning type deal as a spur on my own layout to run my own Shays.....
Simply Spectacular. Really nice work, I can almost smell the woods and the sawdust from Massachusetts! kirk
Hi Alan, Your right my friend, I didn't notice you taking the first photo, ah well, at least I just had a haircut. LOL Glad you enjoyed your visit, you and anyone else is more than welcome to come along, just ask. Cheers Paul
Thoroughly enjoyable visit Paul, and I have no doubt that anyone visiting your logging empire would feel the same Just a pity it is a six-hour round trip for me to visit you
Don't feel bad Alan- I have a wee bit more to travel to even think of getting there (danged ol' Atlantic.......) Which is why I really enjoyed the photos of the layout. Hats off to Paul T. for his incredible work.
6 hours? Ye Gods.... Thats just around the corner :>) And from Texas, its just down the block and around the corner!
I just this morning put up my Christmas tree, and now I have the urge to cut it down all over again!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Paul for sharing your incredible talents with us and thank you Alan for sharing your incredible photos with us also! Merry Christmas to all! And to all a "TOOT! TOOT!"
WOW!!!! A truly awesome layout. Thanks for sharing it with us. After getting over some initial intimidation, it has me inspired with some ideas for the S Scale layout I am planning to build this spring. This railroad is a true work of art.
