C-WW Anyone know of a supplier of brass or delrin worm gears other than NWSL? Thanks guys. Brand new to the forum. Been snooping for a few months and it looks great! [ March 28, 2006, 03:24 PM: Message edited by: watash ]
I have been looking too Throttleman. I have been trying to find a supplier of gears for the watch and clock industry in Switzerland, but none so far. I can make the worm on my lathe, but I don't have a gear cutter anymore to make the driven gear. Let us know what you find. NWSL only makes gears for diesels they told me, none for steam engines. Mantua used to be the best source. ------------------ Watash #982
I just ran across this thread. Sorry I've taken so long. Anyway, I just got a new gearbox for a NJ brass 2-8-0 from NWSL. I sent them the old gear box and they sent me back one that had just about the same teeth, they even sent me an extra ring gear with a different ratio if I wanted it. ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine. Chris, Does NWSL have a web address? I wrote them snail mail. If they have gears for a 2-8-0 they might have some I can use. I need 60:1 and 80:1, but there is no gear box. My worm is pressed on the motor shaft, driven gear is on a driver axel, no gear box needed. Were the gears brass, or just plastic? ------------------ Watash #982 "See you in the Pit"
Watash, they do! http://www.nwsl.com/index.html It was a little hard to figure out before, hopefully they've cleaned it up a bit...

I don't know how to make an active link; but here is an address for worm gears I have dicovered. I have sent for their rather pricey catalog and will give more info when it arrives. www.psmescale.com
