With a layout in segments you can easily solder under the layout: Here I've been busy wiring turntable tracks. Wolfgang
My only question would be, can you lift and move that section by yourself. It seems a bit bulky for one person to move.
Well, this special segment is a little big heavy. I used the help from my son. I have to dismantle the adjacent segments. If I want to handle it easily alone I have to dismantle the corner (left bottom) too. And important: move the trains in staging out off the way. The other segments are smaller. Wolfgang
Ahhh. That explains it. My kids are grown and out of the house. My layout is built into the walls and was never meant to be moved. Also all of the base benchwork is constructed with 2x4's since they were free when I demolished the room (wall studs). The best wiring investment I made was a pair of knee pads like you use to lay floor tile. Look forward to more pics when you get the engine facility up and running.
My layout is 50 inches high (1.3 m). If I am going to wire it I have a low stool that I sit on after I crawl under it. It is not very comfortable and inconvenient; hurts my back if I do it for very long.
My layout is fairly small and made semi-portable. The boards are mostly 2'x4' and I'm making the buildings removable so I can turn the boards almost any way I like to get easy access.
Wolfgang, That's exactly what I did! It really spared my back, which is getting very cranky as I grow older.
Wolfgang, I looked at your blog on the engine facility. Great work so far!! Looks like it will be a busy place. Nicely done pit. Johnny
Johnny, well, the pit is from Walthers. I think I will run this yard a year and more in this stage. Without scenery it's much more easy to remodel things. Wolfgang
