During a recent lull between trains, a Metrolink work crew (Herzog RR Contractors) do some welding to repair to some rail near Burbank Jct, CA.
Burbank is my home town. There used to be a junction tower at that junction where I would ride my bicycle and visit with the old man who worked there. He used to let me throw those huge switching levers and I can still smell his pipe as I watched the lights on the block map and listened to the telegraph click on his old Prince Albert tobacco can. I witnessed many, many GS's and AC's pass by that tower. What sweet memories.
I remember the tower too...unfortunately I never got a pic of it ...I just started out railfanning then...around 1980 or so..they still would hand out flimsies there as trainorders for trains up the coastline or Soledad Canyon.
