IT MUST BE NICE TO HAVE A NICE CLEAN WORKBENCH!! I have one in the basement, someplace? Since I am a husband, homeowner, model railroader, sometimes things just don't go the way I have planned. If something needs fixing, where does the wife put it to make sure I see it? ON THE WORKBENCH. When the vehicles need fixing, tool are set down and things that have no other storage space at the present time, where do they go? ON THE WORKBENCH. Now that the kid has turned 18, AND KNOWS EVERYTHING, she has moved out. Do you think that I might get that spare bedroom for a nice Model Railroading Workbench? Oh No!! She is going to put a bed back in there so people can visit(read MOTHER-IN -LAW) and not have to sleep on sofa. So I guess I am stuck with my full basement. Come to think about it, that might work out better!?! She will not know about the new motive power being rebuilt on the workbench, because she could never find the engines in the mess.
I guess I would like to have a nice clean organized workbench, but it will never happen. I've got too much do, too little time to do it, and a hobby that both my wife and I throughly enjoy, to worry about if the workbench is nice, neat, and clean.

    MODEL RAILROADING IS FUN!!

I kinda felt that problems would happen, (Murphy) if I tried to limit the workspace.
Went to a local lowes and bought a cheapee base cabinet and a cheapee counter top, both are 5’ long.
Extended on both side about a foot to accommodate some wiring and big “stuff”. Inside are stored all my rolling stock boxes, unfinished projects, spare parts and new model kits. In the drawers and various tools and some paper work. (Receipts etc.) Behind and above the top is a storage shelf for the paints and small parts. One overhead fluorescent light and a magnifier lamp. This I built into a closet so it does not interfere with the layout. I try not to hide the small parts as they have a tendency to disappear just when you need them. Got to figure out how to get a pix on here.......

Basicly my layout is my work bench. Of course I am happy to have the new layout in a spare bedroom now with air conditioning and heating, (instead of in the attic) so I will be able to work on it year round, or when in the mood. Of course when I build a model for the layout I have t.v. trays I use for that.
