Work progresses on KCS 20 The work on the E7 is almost complete. Here are some pics. First, with the basic flat white paint from yesterday. Second, with the flat black trim added and the decals applied. Third, this decal was the hardist one to apply. I still have to apply the finishing touches such as grime and rust
Nice looking model. However, it looks like an E7 based on the side panels. The E8/E9 had port hole windows rather than square. Duane Goodman
Very nice looking model. But have to agree with BM50, looks like an E-7 from the side panels. Didn't KCS buy several E-7's from the Boston & Maine?
They bought 5 E7's from the Maine Central. 1 in nov 1962 and the other 4 in Nov 1963. All 5 were gone by the end of 1970. Three were traded to EMD, I don't know about the other two.
Hate to burst your bubble, but that is definatly a E-7, not an E8/9. E8/9s look like this and this is an E7
Yes, I realize that now. I've changed the post accordingly. I should have spotted that. Shows where my mind is.
Looks good so far. IIRC, wasn't the last run of the Southern Belle pulled by a white E-unit? I knew for sure they had white E-units, which to me were as bad-looking as the Frisco E8s painted in Mandarin orange & white. One other question- is that a ConCor model you're working with? I have two CC E7s, one powered, one dummy, that may someday see paint in the Frisco's first pass. colors.
B&M E7's Unfortunately, the B&M scrapped all of their E7's. Their only E8 was sold to the Missouri Pacific. Duane Goodman
