Hi all, i've been playing with these programs withrottle and decoder pro and had great success. Our club had a display at the Caulfield Model Train Show (victoria australia)over the weekend and i used it alongside the NCE system the club uses. The reaction from the public was great, "how cool he's using an iphone to control trains". The only draw back was i had to charge my phone 2 time during the day as it is had on the battery. My next challange is to get into the decoder side of jmri and work on consisting and speed matching. i think it is a great program, and getting the withrottle to work is very easy. thats my 2cents worth. Brad
I've wanted to use withrottle, but we never have a wireless connection nor a laptop on it for use... I've wondered though, what happens when you get a call or text message while running? Does the train continue on, or suddenly stop?
The trains keep running while you answer your phone. When you finish your call, it reconnects back to the server. There was a great write up of WiThrottle in Model Railroad News back in June. About the battery running down, There are small rechargeable batteries available that plug directly into the bottom of the iPhone/iTouch and charge them back up as you use them.
